It's been a while since I've been on the Lair... busy holidays and such! Way back before I got Ozzy last fall, I posted a note on the rescue and adoption forum that I'd be interested in adopting a rescue Sphynx anywhere in the mid-Atlantic area. I never heard or saw anything, but last week, I got a message from Lairian @whitney_j0508 in NC that she had an 8 year old boy that needed to be rehomed. Long story short, my hubby and I picked him up yesterday! His name was Ming, but we have rechristened him "Ming Jagger" because of all the wrinkles and the whole "so ugly he's cute" thing. :)

He's not very happy right now with his new sisters and brother, but I'm sure once he settles down and gets over his upset with the changes, he will fit right in! Thanks Whitney! I already love the old guy!

I'm curious... do y'all think he is a sphynx or a peterbald? His face is kinda different from my other three and he has absolutely no hair on his body from his ears down. My others have fur on paws, ears and tails.

My guess is Sphynx. Did you ask the previous owner if they knew the cattery name? You might be able to research a bit.

He looks like a sphynx to me, but I'm no expert. Lots of sphynx can have extra wrinkles and be "sticky bald." From my reading though, the difference between a canadian sphynx and a donskoy (aka don sphynx) is less physically obvious and lies more in genetics (the donskoy hairless gene is dominant, and in the Canadian sphynx it is recessive). There are some members here with donskoy cats who might be able to shed more light on the difference. From my understanding, a peterbald is a donskoy crossed with an oriental or Siamese, so the difference in their physical features (particularly their facial structure) is more obvious. To me personally, Ming Jagger doesn't look like he has an oriental face.

Thanks all. His background is a mystery. Whitney got him from a man who said that he had been a show cat, but the owner got rid of him because they weren't interested in showing him anymore. The man couldn't take proper care of him, so Whitney got him, but her senior Sphynx couldn't adapt to him which is why she rehomed him. If there were ever any papers, we don't have them unfortunately.

He is such a handsome wrinkly man. I love him! I would say hes not Peterbald because his ears are set higher than the Peterbald. Don't know about Don though. I will keep fingers crossed that he becomes comfortable with your crew soon.

Please someone tell me how to upload pic with tapatalk. I have been wrecking my brain.
When you hit reply you should see a little camera on the top of the box...click it and then it should ask if you wanna upload from gallery or take a pic. Choose one and pic a photo :) it's not too hard lol. I hope that helps...good luck

@gojennings, GOOD to see you back! When I saw your name in this thread, I actually thought I was seeing things. I've missed you terribly and I don't stop thinking about you.

Congrats on Ming Jagger, the side-by-side comparison photos show an unreal resemblance.

We have lots to catch up on (I now have five sphynxes)! LOL

Congrats, he is a handsome little gentleman. I, hope, nothing ever happens, he has to be rehomed, again, poor boy.
Glad you was able to get him. I'm sure in time they will all be happy together.
Looks like a Canadian Sphynx to me.

Thank you, Laura, for giving him a great home!!! I know you will give him nothing but all the love and attention he needs. I knew from the moment I spoke to you that you were the perfect adopter!

I didn't post anything about him on rescue me. I only posted him here. I wanted to make sure he went to a home that really loved, appreciated, and had experience with the Sphynx breed. I rescued him, but was only able to keep him for about 3 weeks since my senior Sphynx just would not adjust to having a new cat in the house. It wasn't fair to him or Ming.

I know, I know... I'm a terrible Lairian! I caught up with some of your posts and was happy to see that you got Sissy after all. You're always one crazy cat lady step ahead of me! LOL!
