Kat Von D lost another sphynx

Maybe her "pets" should just be tattooed on her body where they will be safe. Some people should never be allowed to have 4 legged babies. My mood just changed after reading this post. My stomach is turning and my heart is sad.

That should probably be my worst nightmare!!! I'm always so carefull when I leave Morticia alone and I'm so paranoid about fires....

How sad Kat Von D is not lucky with her sphynx! Ludwig, her first sphynx died of HCM, now this.... how sad!

Her first one actually got out and got attacked by another animal, her second one died in the house fire, both terrible deaths. She also did not put any pause in her book tour. What terrible, scary, deaths these two kittens suffered. I'm sure she loved them but with her resources better care could have been taken to insure their safety. And yes famous or not I would tell any irresponsible person that they should think twice before taking on the care of a living being. On that note I would not wish this on anyone and I hope she is okay and takes something from these things that happened.

It is sad to see her standing there in her charred house. She had some pretty expensive non replaceable items including Valentine. That would be a rough road no matter who you are. I just hope the kitty didn't suffer and she thinks twice before getting another kitty of any sort no matter the breed. I just don't think she is having much luck with anything "personal" right now.

Sad and tragic death for the poor Valentine. I hope he was pain-free. Poor poor baby. Death to fire is a horrid way to go.

It would really say something about her, if she added another Sphynx within the next couple months. Obviously wouldn't be in it for the love of the breed...More for the attention of it. I hope a breeder is smarter than to sell her one, even if she is famous...

If a breeder is smart he/she will talk her into being a voice/advocate for HCM,,with her money and name,,,it wouldn't kill her to make a 2 minute commercial to get the word out, set up a donation etc. Even 2% of her own merch could be donated to HCM - something!!

I have to say personaly I think its a little harsh to call her neglegent and doubt her love of the breed. She loved her cats and yeah sometimes bad stuff happens but she didnt put them in a dangerous situation on purpose, and I'm sure she is heart broken. Both Ludwig and Valentine died of horrific acedents but they were no ones fault. I hope she can find the strength to go on and honor the memory of her naked babies.

Also I thought she got 2 sphynx after Ludwig? Am I wrong? I heard they were called Hollywood and Lebowski, I never knew she had one called Valentine

Some people don't understand how all that works... but businesses tend to not care about people where money is involved and she was contracted to make those appearances. The fire was over, her cat was gone.... it probably broke her heart to have to go back to work. At the same time the distraction was probably welcome.

I have a friend who lost his dog that way...it's hell. Thankfully they usually die from the smoke long before the fire reaches them.

I can't imagine returning home to deal with a fire...Having to sort through the ashes that once were your life.

At one point there were pictures of WWE Wrestler Jeff Hardy with a Sphynx. There were stories all over about his new cat...lol...well the cat in the picture is my Sphynx, Shiva. Luckly at the time I was in a position to sit the record straight.





If I were Kat I don't know if I'd get another Sphynx yet....but I would get another. I think I might wait awhile... It all depends on if the right one presents it's self.

I would hope no breeder would hold these unrelated and accidental deaths against her. If I were a breeder and a celebrity wanted one of my cats (esp a Sphynx) my concern would be her career... will she be gone alot? Sphynx need people and wouldn't do well left alone.​

She was not home when her cat got out and mauled, she was not home for the fire, I think your right, her schedule is too busy to properly take care of a pet. Its really sad they died so tragically.

I watched that episode and Ludwig did get out and was either attacked or hit by a car. He had injuries. He was accidentally let out by one of her friends who was moving her stuff into another place. The friend also publicly apologized for being the cause of Ludwig's demise. It is very sad... as Ludwig was just a sweet kitty, as was Valentine. But for someone who is constantly on tours promoting her show, her book, etc.. She should know that she does not have the time for a pet, regardless of someone gives it to you for free. She likes sphynx because the added oddity gives her more attention, but I do not like the extra attention she gives the sphynx breed. I just hope it doesn't turn out like every other celebrity pet "fad"... i.e bull terriers during the spuds mckenzie fad, teacup chihuahuas during the paris hilton fad, or capuchin monkeys after the Friends "marcel" fad... Cuz once the fad is over, a lot of people will realize that they do not want to reponsibility of maintaining a sphynx... There are enough sphynx rescues as it is.

Not to mention... the people that want a sphynx because it is a fad are the ones who will be going to backyard breeders to get a cheap sphynx... they won't care that it is not pedigreed or HCM scanned.

UGH... I could go on and on... I do NOT condone celebrities promoting any breed of animal... people are too much of followers. Now if she wants to do something good, do NOT get another sphynx and just speak out on the problems in the breed... and maybe donate some of her millions of dollars to HCM research...

I thankfully didn't see that episode. I'm surprized that the site I got my info from was wrong... I almost lost Shiva once because a friend let him out.

I have a portable 4' high folding wire fence I keep around my doorway so it won't happen again. I am also enclosing my porch. If I were Kat I'd be wanted for murder if my baby got out and was killed. There is no excuse for that kind of carelessness.

I was lucky with Shiva. I was scared to death... the area behind my house is pretty dense with plants and trees. There is no way you would see him if he got in there. Between being outside and racoons etc I don't think he would have survived. He was standing about 20 feet from me trying to decide what he wanted to do and he ran to me.

The guilty party never admitted anything.

I hope she thinks it out before making a decision. A job is one thing (most of us probably are gone part of the day) but if she ends up having to travel alot she should wait.

Just an update- I believe she is getting another sphynx. I saw on one breeder's website recently the cutest black kitten, and it said, "Reserved for Kat Von D".

I originally became a fan of Kat Von D when she was casted on Miami Ink and they made a good name for her. Then I follwed her to her show LA Ink but now that I've been watching her further her career and have realized what a dim wit she is and poor manager I wonder how she even obtained all that she has.

And then to see she lost Ludwig to HCM and didn't become an advocate at all for the disease and now I can only assume this fire was started from one of the 300 hundred candles scattered around her condo...how sad. I just feel like she is neglectful, not only to her staff and crew but to her self and animals.

I'm just very dissapointed in her. Does anyone else smell trash???

I personally can't believe that she would 'own' a pet at all! Her job and career have her travelling all over the country/world all the time, I know that everyone who wants to have a pet should be able to but when you have no time to spend with them then you should be more considerate of the animal and choose one that doesn't need constant attention and looking after..... maybe a fish or guinea pig would have been more appropriate for her! You're not being a very responsible pet owner if you have a cat or dog and are away from home 90% of the time. Especially not a Sphynx who crave attention and want to spend all their time with their human

All I can say is really..... is it tht important that we judge ones intentions or abilities.... why don't we concern ourselves with our babies, the one we have agreed to protect and love.

Peoples pets get out, get sick, and tragedy hits no matter who you are... let's not hang her.out to dry cuz of what a tabloid says...... last time I checked they weren't the best source for info. Would this comversation even exist if she had a run of the mill cat?

I think the conversation would exist if it was a 'normal' cat.... but probably not on this forum, maybe on a forum for tabby lovers or ginger cat lovers.... it exists here because of the breed of cat that she owns. I don't begrudge anyone owning an animal BUT you have to be able to care for that animal and love that animal as you would a child. Animals are not disposable beings that you can just leave willy nilly when your work or private life takes you away from the duties you committed to performing when you adopted said animal. I believe that she should have chose an animal more adapted to minimal human contact. What's done is done, accidents happen and there is nothing we can do about it. I'm not 'hanging her out to dry'..... I just hope that her new Sphynx will be a high priority in her life and maybe she could arrange for some better care for her cats next time she can't be around

Honestly I don't like her, use to watch her show but it was so dramtic and she may have some talent but not good business practice! I just think the focus is on her cuz she is a celebrity. I would much rather love on someone who lost a pet than hate on them..... I do understand this is sphynx forum put what I was pointing out is that if she would have got a different sort of cat I don't think people on here would care... and that is just plane sad!!!!! An animal gone no matter what their breed is heartbreaking!!!!

I do hope she takes the new baby with her or kennels the little dear... she has the $$$$$
