well, the kittens have been with me for a week now. that makes them about 5 weeks. they are growing like weeds. tiny tabby, the runt, is now about the size they others were when they first came to me. he is no longer being bottle fed, has mastered eating from a platter, and is no longer quite so *loud*! he still needs to go to someone who likes a clingy, needy, in-your-face type cat (NOT me!). all the babies have become super active and playful. it's a riot to sit and watch them pounce each other and wrestle. the girls are especially wild. it's becoming harder and harder to keep them confined to the room. when i open the door, they all charge it. as they become bigger, it's going to become more and more difficult and more and more frustrating to keep them separated from my boys. not to mention, i feel they aren't being as socialized as i would like confined to the room. still, even with all our precautions, kimo and sol started sneezing over the weekend and have to go see dr bays tomorrow. *sigh* i'll see what she says, but if they're sick now, too, and need antibiotics, too, maybe keeping them apart will become redundant? anyways, now for the part y'all are really waiting for. i tried to get pics of everyone, but they weren't feeling particularly cooperative!

acorn says, "put.... me.... DOWN!" (she is really sweet, just too busy to sit still for pictures!)

Wow, you are doing a fabulous job! They are gorgeous! But I just have to say when I saw "tiny tabby.... still tiny!" face, I let out a little giggle. From what I see in that picture, his nose is a little bit too long for his face, and his ears are a tad bit too high on his head. But, I love it! He looks so unique, defined, and handsome. Well good luck, and be sure to give them each a special kiss and cuddle from me!

Your daughters reaction to "smile for the camera" is hysterical. She's adorable.

The kittens look like they are thriving. Sweet little things

Gosh, what pretty babies! I'm a sucker for a tiger cat! Love both tiny and big jon, but the little white one with the black ears is awfully pretty too.

They are all so unique and precious. Thank you for all the hard work you have put into keeping them alive and healthy.

Hope Kimo and Sol are ok. Sometimes it's just easier if everyone is on antibiotics all at once. Your daughter is quite the ham. I predict you will see that face many times as she grows into a teenager.

Re: my litter of orphans... *pics added!*

yesterday, i heard a knock on my door. i opened it and the girl from across the street is standing there with one of her (brothers? friends?). she told me they have these kittens to sell, and wanted to know if i wanted to buy one. i told her i can't. i have two of my own (not to mention the other animals), and my husband would kill me.

a little bit later, we were out in the yard cleaning up all the branches and leaves from the last big storm. i heard a chorus of kitten cries. you know the cries, those "i need something! help!" cries. i looked across the street to their house, and sure enough.... there are tiny little blobs sitting on a box on their porch crying for all they were worth. it looked like mama was staring out at them from the window. it was too far away (and i need new glasses), so i couldn't get a good look, or even tell how many there really were. going off the size of the blobs and the pitch of the cries, i knew they were way too young to be away from mama. my heart just broke!

today i went to return these people's wayward puppy (let me tell you, i love my neighbors!). against my better judgment, i looked in the box....

they are so tiny. maybe three weeks old (i'm guessing, it's been a long time since i've been around kittens this little). there was a bowl of dirty water, so big it's amazing the kittens didn't drown in it, and a handful of dog kibble (kibbles n bits type). there were flies buzzing around and a couple big beetle bugs in the box. i asked where mama was, and it turns out she was hit by a car two days ago (it was their chihuahua i'd seen in the window). i came home and told david about it. he just sighed and said "go get them." i have the bestest hubby ever! the guy asked me, "you're gonna take them all?! how much you gonna give me for them?" i told him i wasn't going to give him a dime. i was going to take the kittens and keep them from starving to death, then help them find homes. he said, "oh, i was hoping to get some money for them." i told him i wasn't paying for them. he could give them to me, or i could call animal control and report them for animal cruelty. needless to say, i left with the kittens.

there's six. they took to a bottle with no problem, but also loved tracking through canned food thoroughly thinned with kmr. poor things are so little! i need to brush up on my orphan raising- it's been a long time. i need to pick up a postal scale tomorrow so i can keep track of their weight.
You are AMAZING . I just do not understand people these days.

they're doing great! we actually found a local rescue who was willing to support them, with the agreement that i would keep them until they had another foster home open up, or the kittens were old enough to be adopted. they took over all the vet care, which was AWESOME! wednesday, we got a call from the rescue to let us know they had a foster home available. so yesterday, we took the kittens to their new foster family. the foster mom said she'd keep us updated on them, and i have "dibs" on owl (the little tortie) if we decide to adopt her. i bawled like a baby when we left them, but in my tiny house, with my zoo (not to mention the two year old), i didn't feel like i was giving them the individual attention they deserved. this woman has no animals of her own, she ONLY fosters, so they will get lots and lots of attention.

i saved their lives and nursed them back to health, now they'll have the chance to find loving furrever homes.

You did a wonderful thing. Never forget that.
