Oliver is really sick... This morning he was falling over. We rushed to the ER vet again & his sugar/blood pressure were very low. Contacted breeder who is distraught but really only wants me to bring him back (he's out of state) & he will take care of him...
Vet tells me he's not stable to transfer & right now needs 24 hour care, so we're here... Thought breeder would help, nope. Estimate is $1600-2200 just for testing and monitoring, iv, etc... I'm so devastated right now. I don't even know what to do. When i picked him yip Wednesdaynight I thought he was too thin. Breeder said growth spurt & being that he WAS a lot smaller (framed) when i saw him a month ago, i went with it.
Should've trusted my gut, but I'm a first time sphynx owner... I didn't know any Better... That's neither here nor there... Vet says ethically they won't release unless care is lined up at breeders vet, breeder just sent me a text that he would not/cannot pay for overnight care through his vet. I'm so distraught. I then asked the breeder if he would refund me the $ i paid for Oliver & I would pay the rest & he said no, he would exchange for another kitten but i have to bring Oliver back to him.
So I'm stuck now trying to make a decision on how I'm going to afford to pay this bill... They don't do payment arrangements here... Idk what to do. I really don't. Any advice?

Side note, i brought Oliver in yesterday bc his belly was swollen & he's skinny... Was given dewormer (paracur) & able to go home, however yesterday he was eating, drinking, etc...

This might be FIP. And if so, it is fatal. How long have you had this kit? What does your contract state as far as a guarantee?
Gosh, I am soooo sorry. Please keep us informed.

Omg that is awful, I really pray that Oliver will make a full recovery, and IMO the breeder should help you if you were sold a sick kitten, it's ok them saying take him back and exchange him what then, would the breeder then get him vetinary care?

My kitten came with a month free pet insurance, and yes she fell ill, had a fit and was hospitalised, I was fortunate to have the pet insurance, but in the short time we have our babies exchanging them isn't really an option, we fall for them from day one.

I really hope you find the means to pay for the vet, I'm praying your little man gets stronger, my thoughts are with you .

Breeder is on the "once the cat leaves its your responsibility" kick & says he will only replace if genetic issue...

Could it be a panacur overdose, or allergic reaction?

That was my first thought when I read the original post. Reminded me of Diesel and his mom.

I sure hope Oliver gets better quickly!

I think it also sounds like FIP, I lost my Ragdoll baby 2 months ago from FIP, there is no cure. Only can be diagnosed after death. My breeder would not even answer my phone calls after I told her my baby was sick. I was out my kitten who I only had for 2 months, the money I paid for the cat and lots of vet bills. My advice if she will replace the kitten, let her do it. I hope this does not seem cold and heartless, it's not, no one should have to watch there baby die from FIP. It is heartbreaking. I still miss my Max everyday, but I have to say I would not trade the short time I had with him for anything. He was loved up to the very end.

I am so sorry for what you are going through. I cannot imagine what that is like. Maybe apply for CareCredit? That way you can make your payments. It's just awful that the breeder has left you hanging here. Thinking about you <33

I don't mean to sound heartless, but the kindest thing you can do for Oliver now is to end his suffering. And what does your contract state? How long have you had this kit? If it's only a few days, then the FIP was present before you got the kit and the breeder sold you a cat with FIP. I think that might be actionable no matter what your contract says. Most contracts exclude FIP, but if the kit came from my house with it, I would give a replacement kit or a refund. Have your vet give you a letter stating the cat has FIP and how long it would've had to have had it to be this bad.
Again, my heart is heavy for your loss and for poor little Oliver. But when he crosses the Bridge, his suffering is over and I believe you will see him again someday. You did the very best you could and he knew he was loved--and that is everything.
Wish I could hug you up and have a good cry with you. Just know you aren't alone. We get it and understand the devastation you must be feeling.

I did put him down. I stayed with him an hour after it was over. Been crying all day, just exhausted... Breeder is going to replace when I'm ready. My eyes are so swollen, i only had him a few days bur fell in love quick... I am totally devastated. I really am. I'm about to take a sleeping pill & lay down bc its making me so sad that hes not purring away next to me... :(

I understand....wish I could do something to help. I'll pray you get some rest and some peace knowing he is in the arms of the angels now. Where he will never hurt again....and he went there on the wings of your love. That isn't such a bad way to go. No one can take the love you have for him away. He will be with you always.

Also, it wasn't heartless to say that, it was the truth. I didn't want him to suffer. Didn't know it was FIP until halfway through the day & when i found out I made the decision right away
