Othie Marie had the oral surgery...please pray for her!

I'm just seeing this now. It sounds like she's already on the mend. Poor thing is going to be sore for a while, but she's going to feel so much better without the bad teeth! Sending healing prayers to that baby!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have no idea how much comfort these words brought me. Just to hear your baby's face was really swollen too. Makes me less afraid. Again, thank you.

When we went to pick her up the vet came in the office to warn us how bad she looked before they brought her in. (When we had dropped her off it was supposed to be just for 4-5 teeth to be removed and a cleaning, but once they got her knocked out and could really look in her mouth and see how much infection and how rotted her teeth were (she was fighting during the first exam so they could only see a little bit) they said that all of them needed to come out. Poor girl - so much infection through her ears, mouth, and throat had left her deaf and mute and then she became toothless.) So glad to hear that Othie is already doing better! (y) Gee, that vet must not realize how hard it is to see our babies suffering. Prayers that Othie continues in a fast upward climb towards full recovery!!

OMG! I hope Othie can still see....she got up this morning, I gave her her pain meds and then she ate a good breakfast, and finally hunkered back down with the new kids on the hot spot and fluffy comforter. I just want her to be ok again. Please keep those prayers coming!

Got up this morning, gave Othie the eye ointment and her pain meds, then opened a can of food for her breakfast and put it on a plate for her. She tried to eat a little, but then she started gagging and passing HUGE rivulets of drool like a St. Bernard. I was standing over her and looked down and noticed she had a round lump on the side of her face that has the bad eye. I burst into tears and called the vet. Got dressed and took her in....I respectfully told them I was hoping for a little more compassionate treatment this time and wanted to see a different vet that understood I love Othie and that I have questions and concerns. The vet from before wasn't there today anyway...and since the tears were silently trickling down my cheeks, they took us right to an exam room. We had to wait a bit while the vet finished up a surgery he was doing. After examining her, we had quite a discussion: first about the eye. I said there was nothing wrong with her eye when I brought her in, why is there now? Was her eye damaged during surgery? Was it from infection? And if it was, why hadn't we done a round of antibiotics beforehand? Was she going to be blind? Is her eye going to be ok? He told me she will not be blind...the issue has been that the bleeding goes up into her sinuses as well as down --causing pressure on the nerves that allow her to open and close her eye. I said that I had seen pics of a kitty that had all her teeth out and that she hadn't looked ANYTHING like Othie does. He explained The problem isn't because her teeth were rotting and easy to get out..it's because they were firmly seated and really difficult to remove. But he was very pleased to see she could completely close her eye now, and he thinks there will be no residual effects. I asked him if that was the only issue with the eye? I told him I understand the swelling and being bloodshot, but was terrified there was something more wrong when I kept asking if her eye would get better and they kept saying they didn't know. So, he answered all my questions about the eye and I was somewhat relieved. He said there is no infection-- her temp was normal, asked me if I'd noticed any bleeding (I haven't), and the lump on the side of her face was just swelling and that it might take up to two weeks for it all to go down. He told me he thought from what he'd heard of the conversation with the desk this morning that she would be staying there, but happily that is not the case. I am to call him at five tonight to let him know how she is, check in with updates Friday and Saturday and bring her back for a recheck on Monday. He gave me five cans of easy on the tummy wet food and I walked out feeling more relieved than I care to tell you. I had all kinds of horrible thoughts that since it had been so cheap, that maybe poor Othie got a cut rate job....I was two swallows away from vomiting thinking I had done that to her and she would be permanently disfigured. What a difference knowing the whys and when's and what ifs made for this crazy cat mama. The guilt of thinking I had done this to her was overwhelming. I cried with relief on the way home. Please keep Othie in your prayers so she gets better with each passing hour. I won't be ok until she is.
Sorry for the long post, but am so horribly sorry for my baby girl....

Aww susi, I'm so sorry you and Othie have had a rough time. I hope it continues to get better from here. Hopefully the swelling will go down and she will amaze you from here on out. Dental surgery can be rough on humans, let alone a little, itty bitty feline. I can't imagine all of that tugging and yanking for the poor baby. Hang in there Othie Marie!

Oh geez Susi. That is horrible! I am relieved the vet took their time and explained why the swelling occurred. If the first vet had done that you might not have been so terrified. Prayers will keep going Othie's way.

Thanks everybody. I appreciate it more than you know. Othie is doing pretty good tonight. She ate 3/4 of a can of turkey pate, walked around a bit, then happily returned to the heated blanket and fluffy comforter. She seems a smidge better to me. And I'll take that. Please keep those prayers coming for her and for me.
