My darling Bengal girl Poppy needs your support. The last few days she's had a bit of blood when she poops. I thought initially she might be straining a bit and the blood was insignificant, however yesterday it was quite a lot and she also had blood over her tiny bottom after she pooped.

We went to the vet yesterday, who ran a lot of tests in her poo sample, coming up with nothing. She passed more bright red blood today, big drops in the tray and again all over her bot, so when I spoke with the vet, he suggested she have a colonoscopy under an anaesthetic. This is scheduled for Monday.

At the moment she's bounding around like her usual self, with no other symptoms that anything is wrong, so I'm hoping for something simple like a little bleeding polyp, but obviously can't help thinking of all the nasties that could be wrong.

She's only 8 months old, just, so hoping for the best. Please keep all fingers, toes and paws crossed for Poppy. We'll update you as soon as we know anything new.

@lealea, (( healing head smooches )) to Poppy!
From me and my Bengal Macie and naked herd

I have had bengals for 20 plus years .. In my experience, they can be prone to IBD / colitis..
Does Poppy throw up at all?

My Macie Bengal is on Halo sensitive stomach turkey dry food now- she refuses wet food but does looove her water fountains..
She is doing well on the Halo sensitive food( even though I am not keen on the celebrity angle)
Better poos now and not vomiting like she was..

Omar Bengal used to get metronidazole pills from time to time.

Sending get well soon wishes to Poppy! We are here for you! I know how scary it was when I first saw the bright red blood with my bengals.. You will get a diagnosis and treatment plan that will make her feel all better soon
Keep us updated
((Hugs))

No, Tammy, I don't think Poppy has ever thrown up at all. She did have a bacterial infection? That she was treated for a month or so back. Her poop was foul smelling and runny, but no blood. The blood is a new thing. Good tips on the metronidazole though. I'll defnitely suggest that to the vet if the scope turns up nothing.

The colonoscopy has been moved forward to tomorrow, as poor Pops had a significant amount in her poop today and the vet didn't want to wait over the weekend. Poppy also seems a bit off her food today, too and her coat looks a bit ruffled up, so I don't want to chance waiting either. Still might be nothing, but good to get it checked out. She's booked in for first thing in the morning.

Thank you for all the well wishes. It's horrible having them go through tests, as they don't understand what happening. My vet seems very understanding and respectful of Poppy though, so I'm sure he'll make it as stress free as possible.

I'll update as soon as I hear anything.

@Yoda mom no Poppy isn't very vocal at all, she is more of a chuffer. She chuffs and growls when we play fetch, especially if we don't throw the mouse/bird/fish etc straight away. She twitches her whiskers and has both eyes fixed on the prize. She'll occasionally meow, but that's usually if the food is taking to long to get to the bowl, but it's rare. We had a Bengal a while back who was very vocal, talking when she was hungry, announcing her poops, "where are you mummy and daddy" screams! Poppy is completely different and so adorably cute with it!

She's at the vet now. Not sure who's missing her more, me or Rosie as I'm getting constant vies for affection from my dear little naked who seems a bit lost without her furry friend. I had a few things to do this morning, but have decided to put it on hold. Naked baby cuddling is definitely a priority!

Well, my darling Poppy is home and it's pretty good news. The colonoscopy showed some nasty colitis, but there was evidence of healing with her recent antibiotic injection, so it looks promising. She's been started on a long course of metronidazole, which she may have to have again in the future for any flare ups, but i'm relieved it's something easily treated should this happen again. She has a follow up appointment in 10 days with the vet to see how she's going.

As soon as she got home, she pounced on a little dish of food, gobbling it up like she's been starved for a week, with Rosie jumping all over her in glee at her having her best friend come home! Since then, they've both been flying around the house, playing like maniacs, with no hope of me keeping Poppy quiet for the night after her ordeal.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I'll leave you with a few of my favourite Poppy pictures, the last one has her finally falling asleep after her big day.

Just an update on Poppy. She's not been herself for a couple of days, kind of sleepy and a bit mopey, eating, but not really interested in her food. I have been picking her up and plopping her in front of the bowl, then she eats but kind of slowly and not much.
I thought it was just the after effects of the antibiotics, but today she's been walking funny, not really limping, just sort of wobbly and uncoordinated. And she's stopped playing, which is highly unusual as she loves a good game of fetch!
So it was back to the vets again tonight. She has a temperature and the vet thinks it could be any number of things, but since she's super clumsy, she may have fallen and hurt herself which is giving her pain, hence her disinterest in moving and playing. She's also lost quite a bit of weight since her colitis ordeal and her hip bones are starting to show and she's getting a bit too skinny.
She's had another antibiotic injection, as she was running a temperature and she's on a course of meloxicam in case she's in pain.
We have another appointment on Friday to see how she's getting on. Thanks for all your well wishes before, but she's needing some more, poor girl. She's not having the best time at the moment. Dear little Rosie is doing her best to perk her up and tries to play with her, but she doesn't understand Poppy isn't feeling well and looks kind of puzzled as to why her best mate isn't chasing her around the house any more :(

@lealea , ooh Poppy we are sending a jungle full of feel better wishes! Sorry to hear she is not feeling well ..
And tell Rosie we are sending lots of lair prayers for her buddy to get well so she is up for a good chase and fetch.

Will she eat any supplement paste from your finger?
My Omar Bengal went thru a time of mysterious illness they thought was his pancreas etc - but no tests conclusive- so we did combinations of pain meds and even prednisone formulated into a liquid every morning and courses of antibiotics.. He was on medication for a long time - ahe bounced back from his mysterious illness and gained all his weight back and had a happy healthy life - we never knew what it was-
These bengals can be mysterious with their IBD etc

I am sending a heartful of hugs and head smooches for Poppy ! And of course for Rosie too!
I am sure Rosie is helping with Poppy feel better snuggles

Please keep us updated on the follow up visit and be sure to check Poppy for hydration and watch she is drinking water too

@Yoda mom that's a good idea to try supplements. I've been trying to get her to eat more using treats like tuna and cat milk, but a special formula might be the best. I'll have a look tomorrow for some, if not, I'll ask the vet what they have in stock on Friday. I'm getting some special kangaroo rump in the morning and going to see if she'll have a good meal of that. It's pretty lean meat, but a good dose of protein if she eats it up, which will give her a little boost. I've used scrambled eggs in the past to boost protein and healthy fats, so I'm going to get some fresh eggs tomorrow too.
Thanks for the positive thoughts, it's good to know Omar went on to be happy and healthy after his illness. Wish I knew what was going through their heads when they're sick and ask what the matter is.
I'll keep you posted!
