Thanks @Yoda mom
Poppy kind of perked up a bit yesterday morning, but she's back to lethargic and flopping herself down at every opportunity. Her fur is all ruffled and she's definitely looking under the weather. And no playing fetch, which is highly unusual, she just stares at us all lost when we throw her mice.

Back to the vets tomorrow morning to see if there is anything else we can do, she's a bit of a mystery. I'm going to ask for some blood tests to check her haemoglobin and electrolytes. I'll keep you all updated. Thank you for your well wishes and concern. Poor Pops is not having a good time :(

@Catzzzmeow thAnk you, Patti, thankfully she's drinking well and peeing plenty, too. Her urine is a good colour and she seems well hydrated. She's off her food again this morning, picking at it, but not really interested. I'm worried about her, too. She's usually so greedy and full of beans. Hopefully some blood tests will show something.
Thanks for your concern.

Sorry to hear Poppy is still not her little old self! Hope the vet finds out what is going on. Keep all fingers and claws crossed here.

I haven't asked about pyometra. Poppy hasn't had her first heat yet and she shows no signs of tenderness in her abdomen, which is a good sign. I will ask though, as I hadn't really considered it and it's a real possibility since she's entire.
She's a little perkier tonight, played a half hearted game of fetch for a few minutes, then I think she wore herself out and crashed for a power nap. She's not a really snuggly girl, but has been a bit more cuddly since she's been sick, seeking us out for a warm snuggle up. As much as I love it, I know it's not normal for her to be so clingy. I think she knows we're looking out for her.

Well, we have been to the vets. Poppy looked a bit brighter this morning and was less limp as the vet examined her. Her eyes were more sparkly this morning, too and she looked more interested in her surroundings.
The vet is pleased to see some improvement, but she's still not recovered, so we have another appointment in 10 days, or sooner, should she get worse.

I asked about pyometra and he checked her out again to be sure. She doesn't have any symptoms of open or closed pyometra, just the lingering temperature, so feels pretty sure that's not the problem, thank goodness.

Because she looks a bit better, oh, and she had some breakfast this morning, too, we are holding off on blood tests as he doesn't think there's a need to stress her out unnecessarily just yet, but will do if she doesn't continue to improve.

So for now, it's kind of good news. She's more into her food today, which I take as a good sign. Whatever the problem is, she's being mysterious about it.

Hi Macie! Paws up!

Wuv felt and passed on to all four feline children. Just got snuggled up after my night shift, with Rosie by my tummy and Pops is by my feet. Feeling loved.

@Yoda mom thanks for asking. Poppy wasn't improving on the medications so we too her back for an appointment two days ago and the vet ordered an X-ray which was done yesterday under a general anaesthetic. It looks like darling Poppy has a herniated disc in her back, so no wonder she's been in pain and hasn't been into playing and sleeping all day. My vet is keen to keep with the medications for now, hoping we'll see some improvement. He's not keen on the surgical option, as the cats bone structure makes it difficult to do spinal surgery and they don't fair well with it.

Hopefully the pain will settle with meds and she'll get back to chasing Rosie around the house soon. Surgery isn't really an option for me either, as the pain and confusion for Poppy would be considerable and I'd hate to put her through that.

I'll keep posting updates in this thread and I'm sure to post lots of pictures of her and Rosie in the mean time!

Wow...as much as I hate to hear Poppy is in pain, I am happy to hear it is not life threatening. Happy healing wishes are sent.

Well, not sure we can stop her from jumping up on the furniture, but she seems to be her own boss of that right now and naturally taking it easy. She's more inclined to sleep and laze around and hasn't been into play mode for a while. I think she'll know when she's ready. She had a half hearted play with one of the older cats today, from lying on her back she managed to clap both paws around Cleopatra's face, much the Queen's disgust of course, but it was good to see her a bit more engaged. She even did the 'wiggly bum then pounce' move on one of her many mice this evening and there was a definite sparkle in her eyes!

Thanks for keeping us updated. Sending you healing vibes and positive thoughts for Poppy and the rest of your crew (including you). It sounds as though Poppy has a handle on what needs to be done to acclimate herself to her condition which is good (not too much of the daredevil in her). Hugs hugs.

A little update on my darling Poppy.
She's doing really well and seems to have no pain at all now and is back to bounding around with her best pal, Rosie and up to all sorts of mischief if she can get away with it! She's off her meds since Friday and all's good so far, so hopefully we've seen the last of her back problems. Can't stop this bengal from bouncing all over the place now!

Thanks to everyone for your concern, well wishes and support. It's means a lot.
