I put him to sleep tonight. Â His breathing was very shallow and labored; it was very close to a state of panting. He had lost so much weight in the past 48 hours it was unbelievable - hips protruding, spine, shoulder blades and his chest bone. Even his neck bones were visible. It was heart wrenching to see him like that. He also developed bruise-like marks on his abdomen overnight. I think he may have been hemorrhaging inside. Â
When I looked into his eyes today, I knew it was time. Â He passed very peacefully in my arms. He was such a brave little guy, he was purring at the vet's office. Â I had his paw prints cast as well as having him cremated.
When I took Rupert in to see the vet on Saturday, he was classified at a stage 4 heart murmur. Â My vet said his murmur was worse, despite the medications I was giving him. Â He said he was very young to have a heart murmur that advanced and even if he didn't have the FIP he would not have had a very long life. Â He figured he may have had a few days to live.Â
This was the hardest thing I have ever done. I miss him so much. A part of me died with him today.
