I put him to sleep tonight.  His breathing was very shallow and labored; it was very close to a state of panting. He had lost so much weight in the past 48 hours it was unbelievable - hips protruding, spine, shoulder blades and his chest bone. Even his neck bones were visible. It was heart wrenching to see him like that. He also developed bruise-like marks on his abdomen overnight. I think he may have been hemorrhaging inside.

When I looked into his eyes today, I knew it was time.  He passed very peacefully in my arms. He was such a brave little guy, he was purring at the vet's office.  I had his paw prints cast as well as having him cremated.

When I took Rupert in to see the vet on Saturday, he was classified at a stage 4 heart murmur.  My vet said his murmur was worse, despite the medications I was giving him.  He said he was very young to have a heart murmur that advanced and even if he didn't have the FIP he would not have had a very long life.  He figured he may have had a few days to live.

This was the hardest thing I have ever done. I miss him so much. A part of me died with him today.

Oh,I am so sorry. I am crying for you as I type :Cry: Rupert was such a young little guy and his story is heartbreaking. He brought you lots of joy and comfort at a time in your life when you needed it most and you were able to repay him by letting him go when he needed you to. He may have lived a short life but it was a fulfilled life and he left this world with many people loving and caring about him.:Adore:
RIP beautiful Rupert, you will not be alone as you cross the Rainbow Bridge, you have a whole family of sphynxs waiting for you to come and play.

So sorry about Rupert.
It sounds like he had HCM also at a young age.
I am crying also.

I am so sorry for your loss.

It's so hard to find the right words when the pain is still present in your heart. He will always be with you forever happy and healthy in your memories.

This was posted for me at another site... I don't know who wrote it, but I want to pass it on to you...

Dear Mom,

I’m just about to take a nap, for I’ve been running free.
I was chasing butterflies, and one small bumble bee.
I’ve rolled around in catnip, I’ve climbed high in a tree
And now I’ll rest all cuddled up with others just like me.

I’m in a truly lovely place, it’s right by Heaven’s gate.
I’m not alone, and I am told this is the place to wait.
I’ve told everyone about you, they said you won’t be late.
That though on earth long years will pass, I’ll meet you by the gate.

There’s a bridge we’ll cross together, it has a rainbow hue
And really it’s so pretty here, that all I miss is you.
So please don’t think about the things you did or didn’t do
It was my time to find the bridge, so please do not feel blue.

I’m sorry that I left so fast, without a kiss good-bye.
But I’ve enclosed a “head butt” and a slow blink of my eye.
Take care of all our family and tell them that I’ll try
To be the one that greets them first, when they come, by and by.

Love and thanks for being such a good mom,
your Rupert

Thank you for being brave enough to make the decision you did. I am so sorry you lost your baby. I know nothing anyone says can sooth the hurt in your heart right now, but we are all still here with you. Even though miles separate all of us from each other, I will be thinking of you and your beloved Rupert all day, and hoping that some peace of mind can make its way to you soon.

Angel,
With each one of these devastating losses, I find it gets harder and harder to find the words. I just want you to know that Rupert's passing affects so many of us. In his short life, thanks to you, he has known unconditional love and has touched all of us who you allowed to know him through your words.

I know your decision was hard, but you did such an unselfish thing. You let Rupert pass with dignity, without suffering, and in his momma's loving arms.

And Angel, you have the perfect name... for Rupert is your angel now. I just know that he will keep watch over you and keep you in his "loving embrace" until you meet again. It is OK to mourn, but remember all the happiness little Poopy brought you and PLEASE learn to embrace that happiness again... Rupert would love that.

Rest in peace, precious Rupert... I, personally, will miss you very much.

I agree that it is getting harder to find the right condolences. It doesn't seem like words can express how sad I am for you. I can imagine the heartbreak you are enduring now and wish I could give you a hug and a shoulder to cry on. You made the best decision for Rupert and he knows he was loved.

Today I am grieving the loss of a sweet and special angel....who was ripped away from us by disease. But I am also happy that the assault on poor little Rupert's body is over and now he can rest in a place where there is no more pain, no more suffering...and horrible things like HCM and FIP just don't exist. He left such a big hole...we all feel it, but none so much as his mommy.

Oh, sweet little Rupert, you fulfilled your mission. You did a good job...thank you so much. We know you will be in your mommy's heart forever and will be waiting for her on the other side. Love doesn't die. Now, rest peacefully in the knowledge that Mom's going to be alright...just give her some time to heal. You have to give her some time to cry, sweet boy, but then you'll see...you've given her enough love to get her through this.
Please find Yule and Baby T-Rex and all the rest of our angels and surround yourselves with all the love we're sending your way,

Angel, I am so sorry. I can't even imagine how you must feel right now. But remember the smiles and laughter Rupert brought you. Remember his warmth and purrs. He was your angel and did what he was supposed to do. He's no longer in pain and is now watching you from above. I hope your days get better. *HUGS*
