When it rains, it pours... my aching wallet!
Yesterday I had to take 5e to the vet. While infusing coffee to rouse myself from zombie-hood, I noticed a couple of bloody paws prints. I promptly filled the food dish so as to summon the kitties for a health check.
Turns out 5e had gotten a bit of wire stuck in his paw== easy fix despite his protests. Unfortunately, all but one of his paws was swollen and infected 'ulcerated' was the term the vet used :Badly:
The vet was rather concerned and said we needed to do 'punch biopsies' as his paws. Apparently, the symptoms are indicative of several auto-immune disorders, and we need to know which one as they have different treatments.

He's recovered well from the sedation, I took off the bandages the morning, and he's loving life with the pain meds  I just get to fret and spend time with Dr.Google, scaring myself.

as for the aching wallet... my car got totaled (other driver had no insurance) in early Dec. (fixing the project car in a rush is costing over $2k) I just got Laser Eye surgery($5k) and now this... $600 just to find out what's wrong, not even treat... granted, I'm happy 5e is the cheapest of the recent expenses, but it still makes the budget unhappy.

At least my vision has cleared up from the lasers, I'll keep posting in this thread as I know more.

Oh wow. What a bunch of crazy things all to happen around the same time.
At least you will have good vision now & a kitty to snuggle :p

I love the way you describe everything in this thread. Very interesting to read.

I hope everything turns out okay & 5e recovers quickly

Well, as Elvira would say, having to spend out that kind of money, one thing right after another is "a suck". I hope 5e gets better soon and that whatever it is that he has isn't too costly or too difficult to get rid of. Will be praying for you and for him. Please keep us informed. We care.
Hugs,
Susi

Fester how have you been since your surgery? Did all go as smoothly as possible? Sorry about your pocketbook but glad you've got things taken care of. I'm hoping for the best outcome for 5e.

My grandma always used to say that bad things happen in threes and then you are due three good.

I'm hoping a good result from 5e's biopsies is the first of those three. You certainly have been challenged lately.

Oh no! So much all at once. So sorry about all of that but they say things come in threes. So hopefully it's over for a very long time now. I hope 5e (what is the pronunciation? - might be a dumb question) heals fast and the tests bring back something not too complicated to fix.

Geez, sometimes life just throws everything at you at once! Glad your vision is improving and I hope 5e's test results come soon without being too serious.

First my baby's name:
5e. it's a bad pun, Cat.5e is also know as ethernet cable. I pronounce it Fivey.
My eyes are recovering quite well, this Friday will be 2 weeks since the eye surgery. I had PRK laser surrgery with customvue -- my vision is about 90% of what it will be. -- very little discomfort, quite happy with the results.

The car, meh, I was going to fix it myself, but since the accident took out the working car, I needed it working fast. I should have it on the road in another week. It kinda sucks get groceries, and taking 5e to the vet on a scooter, though. --It's a ig nice scooter, so could be worse.

5e has his bandages off-- that was a trial for the both of us! I think the adhesive on the tape must have been made from the very forces that bind the universe together!
He's living it up on his thrive daily pain meds -- either he's really, really, high, or the pain from the paws was keeping him pretty low-key before. According to the vet, several of the possible problems would have had him in constant pain :Badly2:
He was sedated and had his biopsies done Tues. and I bring him to have his stitches out in another week and a half.
Last night he decided he needed to help my with my robot building -- cute as heck, but pretty frustrating to the 3 of us , me, 5e, and the robot -- little kitty paws pulling out wires doesn't go well!

later today, I'll add some photos of the really cool scooter and my current robot project to an album for the curious. For this thread, here's 5e currently:

It's an avatar I made a few years back -- my duster, goggles, cigarette and coffee cup(red) -- everything else edited out -- I use it on most fora I'm a member of.

I've got a nifty green wool trench coat these days -- I might have to update.

Just double checked with the vet, no news back from the lab. :sigh:

at least 5e acts like he hasn't a care or pain in the world.
