I have been in touch with my breeder. She will have kittens available end of August/beginning of September. She has seven available now but I am #16 on the wait list. End of August or beginning of September is perfect timing for me.

MY QUESTION:

I had to euthanize Raphael in January due to HCM complications. I have kept her scratching posts and cat tree. Is that ok or will new kitty be able to smell her on the cat tree? I will buy new litter trays, blankets, and beds. Cat trees are big so I hate to have to get rid of this one and buy a new one but I will if people have had negative experiences with giving their new kitty their old kitty things.

Thanks everyone!

I am SO excited for you! I have never gotten rid of cat trees everything will smell new to a kitten so it really doesn’t matter to them. Think of all the things Rafael would rub up against etc…no way to totally get rid of their scents left behind :) Cat trees are a pretty big expense/investment would be terrible to get rid of it.

@Annejo12 , awh hugs, excited for you.. I keep the cat trees and scratching posts. when newbie comes I scratch on the scratch pad myself and then kitty does, praise n treat.
My mom recently adopted a black kitten in honor of her Jefferey. I loaded up some of Raven things , and even Tobylove's fav cat wheel (I have been trying to train her to it but she has the attention span of a rock lol,. soo I suspect I will be asking neigh again for a ride with their pickup to get back the wheel)

I think you will be just fine keeping cat tree and scratchers. my moms kitten took to the scratchers immediately.

big hugs, keep us updated!

I am so excited for you!

I never got rid of Agnes' things after her passing, her beds, cat tree even her sweaters and toys. Dolly and Otis get to enjoy them now. Well except the sweaters for Otis and the cave cat beds since they have the upgraded heated cat bed to keep them nice and toasty.

Thank you @Catzzzmeow , @Yoda mom , and @kauna for your responses. I guess I was overthinking. It makes perfect sense that it won’t matter to new kitty. I have one soft green velour blanket that belonged to Raphael, I keep it in my dresser drawer. That is the only item I won’t share. I will need kitty litter trays but other than that I am set. Thanks again.

Oh wow Annejo, I have the wiggles for you. I too have things that go back (OMG couldn't count on my fingers!!) 40 years....even a 5 foot tall scratching post we had made for my friend's Maine Coon which she regifted when he died. The successors love them as their own and we call them by the name of the one who had it first. We recover them when they get dirty or lose gheir 'scratchability." Nice to memorialize and remember the others.

Yay! So excited for you. Hope they get a lot of kittens so you as number 16 will get a kitten.
As others already said: I would keep all those things. It is a nice idea that this way Raphael will be with the new kitten and the new kitten will know the smell of Raphael

Thank you @tuffysmommy and @Toa and Ross ! I like the thought that keeping Raphaels things for the new kitty will have the new kitty know the smell of Raphael. She is gone but still here!

This group is always so supportive and I really appreciate it.
