Do you get annoyed when people say that your sphynx is ugly? It really seriously annoys me! Or "omg what is that THING" Ugh! People suck sometimes LOL.
I just put a picture of Starla up on my Facebook & here comes some idiot "friend" with "oh my god that thing is so ugly" What on earth makes people think that its ok for them to talk negatively about something that I obviously love? SMH. Does this annoy you too? What's the worst comment you've ever heard about your sphynx?

Its so annoying. Its like damn even if you don't feel the same way I do, what gives you the right to say some mean & nasty things? I OBVIOUSLY like it so why can't you just use a little tact and say something like "ooh well thats not really my thing but good luck"
I would NEVER say negative things to someone about something that they obviously were in love with.

I have developed a thick skin. Cleopatra's been called rat, goblin, ugly, a cross between a dog and cat, chihuahua, and a pitbull! I laugh about it, but the negativity on facebook is one of many reasons why I refuse to use it. At least with the people I know well, I can talk with them and reason, but fb is a different matter. I know my baby is beautiful and my true friends either agree or say nothing. The others? They are entitled to their opinions - and I am entitled to not care about or listen to them.

Creepy and weird used to bother me, but I just explain that she looks like every other cat under their fur and that if they don't like it they don't have to look at her! It's just ignorant people and everyone who said negative things about her before and have met her just adore her now!

Before I got Karma I did a lot of research and spent a lot of time with people who had Sphynx. I would sit back and listed to people look at the cats and say some of the strangest things. I realized even before I was hooked that I would have to have a very thick skin.
Everyone has their own opinion and they are free to feel the way. I truly believe that people do not realize how rude they are being or that they are hurting our feelings in any way though they are.
I do know however that once they meet my cat and spend time with her they become enamored and think she is awesome. So I take it as my duty to educate them on the Sphynx and even if they do not love her afterward they always seem to have a new appreciation for her. This is what make me happy!

Luckily I havent had to deal with too much negativity yet. We went to Petsmart and got absolutely attacked by everyone in the store but they only had good things to say. My husband was actually embarrassed by all the attention. On Facebook my friends either say nice things or nothing at all, but I don't have a ton of people I barely know as friends. My mom makes comments sometimes but they aren't mean, just honest. I'm not bothered by much though. Let's face it, at first glance they do look a little odd. I can understand someone saying they look bat like or like a gremlin or something.

When I was very first trying to convince Erik to get a sphynx I showed him a picture and he said "ugh, please! I'm trying to eat!". Big jerk was just mostly trying to irritate me though. He still calls stormy ugly but 2 minutes later brags about how he slept on his arm all night, so I just ignore him.

This infuriates me so much! It's more than acceptable for people to post pictures of their furry babies & everyone swoons, but the second I post a picture of my Sphynx it's like all hell breaks loose, the world is about to end! Everyone tells me what disgusting & hideous creatures they are (except for the ones who've seen my Sphynx in person tell me I've proved them wrong, but also quickly try to invalidate that with "but everything's cute as a baby...").

What makes me even angrier is the judgement that some people make on the actual owner themselves. I'm the only person I know of in my district with a Sphynx and the people at my school were nasty towards me (behind my back). They'd say how much of a freak I was for liking such disgusting & vile creatures; oh and apparently also it made me a complete bitch, too?.. a huge majority of my school hated me JUST BECAUSE OF THAT. I mean, it's one thing subjecting the animals to their negativity, but directing their discomfort towards the people with the affinity for them is just completely out of hand. Sorry for this rant, it still gets to me how horrible people can be just because we have different tastes, you know? Sphynx are bomb anyways, they're missing out.. they deserve to miss out hehe go us on the lair! :Wink2:

Opinions are like a**holes.. every one has one... and is either good or bad but are entitled to them.. I don't like hearing bad things about sphynx but can I really expect every one to like them??.. there are some animals I am not fond of.. and yes I may choose to not make negative comments about them but not every one can make the same choices I do.. I have a album on facebook which I named my new baby all negative comments keep to yourself please.. most have respected that.. there was on lady who wasn't really a friend.. I befriended her as she sent me a request and she was the aunt of a friend so I just accepted.. she kept after ever person who commented on a photo of him saying "still a rat" so after twice mentioning to her to look at the name of the album and that we are fully a ware what her opinion is to gently hint she should stop not cause I am against hearing her opinion.. i just don't like people treating me like stupid.. and thinking I couldn't catch on that you thought he looked like a rat on your first post... she had to go posted it after every one posted something about him!! so I simply without a word defriended her.. that is the nice thing about facebook you get to choose who sees your stuff (same as in the real world) and who is on your friends-list.. simple solutions... if I don't like what some one says I choose my reaction.. mostly I choose to ignore it... because I realize that regardless that I may not like what comes out their mouth.. and that they could have been tactful.. they made the choice not to be and that is their right just like its my right to have an opinion etc....

mine have been called rats, aliens, fugly. i've been asked, 'what do you see in an ugly animal like that?' i've heard, 'ewww, gross'. i could go on. chalk it all up to ignorance, i guess. yes, it is annoying & heartbreaking, to say the least. but you know what? every creature was put onto this earth for some reason. only those of us who are owned by sphynx know that one reason is LOVE.

Amen to that! & I do love people too but they're just so STUPID sometimes. Its like if someone I knew had an ugly baby (HELLO YOU ALL KNOW YOU'VE SEEN AN UGLY BABY BEFORE I DONT CARE) I would NEVER comment something like "OH MY WORD, LOOK AT HOW BIG HIS HEAD IS, HE LOOKS LIKE AN ALIEN" even if it MIGHT be true!!!!! I get it, its not everybody's cup of tea, but people need to use tact I mean c'mon if I've only had her a week & already have 1000 pictures up, I obviously love her & you shouldn't say negative things!
Anyway, just venting ya know! LOL

Same here and that is the worst of my experiences. The only other was people not being sure it was a cat but they weren't rude about it.

I personally think those comments are funny. I dont take offense to them, and think they those people are just jealous that they just have a common old dog or cat.

Since I now have no hair, am a whopping 4'11", and have a hairless cat, I am now getting the Austin Powers joke at work...so, frequently at meetings I will just blurt out "We do not gnaw on our kitties" at work.

They dont bother me at all. I was one of the people that said they were ugly, until I spent a week with them.(And left with my Piglet). I try to inform people of them. Afew people at work would refuse to touch Piglet, but that say they are scared of all cats, not just my naked one. He was been called a dog more times than not. But I used to work in a nursing home, so their eye site was not the best anyways. Put that, with a cat walking on a leash, and you get a small dog.
Petsmart was always fun. Piglet would normally go around the isle first and scare people. After the shock of him on the leash, people always wanted to pet him and always wanted to know where I got him. (and were upset when I told them Vegas). Most people that said he was ugly to start with would end up likeing him by the time we left.

Lucky! I've always been one of the tallest girls and I hate it! I want to be short more than anything, I'm only 5'6" which isn't terribly tall or anything, but I think being short has a kind of cuteness attached to it; that and it makes you seem "forever young" in a way :Hysterical:

For some reason I always loved naked cats, never though they were weird. In my mind it was " SOOOO COOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL" then when I got my kittens pics from the breeder I showed to some friends and one of them told me "omg you gonna make me puke in my mouth!" my face of complete disbelieve gave her the hint that she was hurting my feelings. She said she was sorry and that she wanted to meet the cats when they get home. I family just think it looks funny, but some comments on facebook abou how ugly they are. I just posted a pic of the 2 of my kittens and the caption was " Yeah you are staring at a naked cat, bald is beautiful" and a picture of my fiance ( he is bald). People said funny things, and the negative ones I deleted. I understand what they think, but really dont welcome negative comments. It is like saying to a mom that their kid is ugly.
