Well, my thoughts have already been stated before but maybe I can personalize it a little bit.
Like many have said, I've always been an animal person - mainly dogs - but never owned a cat or had interest in it.
My last roommate moved in and integrated her regular ol housecat with myself and my English Mastiff. Her cat was 13 years old and it was my first experience of living with a cat. I really liked Susan (my roommates cat) and began talking about getting another cat except that I couldn't handle any more cat hair. Susan's was bad enough. So I thought about a hairless cat. I never got one but the idea stuck in my head.
But about a year later I moved from warm Southern California to Chicago. My English Mastiff had arthritis and would be miserable in the cold. So she stayed spoiled rotten with my cousin in Mexico and romped on the warm beaches for her remaining time. After being in Chicago a year it was the longest period of time in my life I've ever gone without having a pet. It's emotionally important for me to have a pet so I started to consider my options. My apartment building didn't allow dogs and only about 1/3 of apartment buildings do. So for me, as much as I wanted a dog, I just couldn't. So my thoughts returned to a cat.. and a hairless cat. So I began my research and fell in love with the breed. Between the looks and personality I was sold.
About a week later I feel like I lucked out since I know many have waited years for their first Sphynx. I found a rescuer close by who was rehoming Frank. We immediately clicked and we're coming up on our 1 month anniversary in a few days.
I couldn't be happier with my choice to get a Sphynx. Frank is a great companion and just what I needed. Already I see the benefits he's had in my life. I've gone through an emotionally difficult period of time the past few months and he's brightened up everything around me.
