When will my kitten learn to stop stepping in his poop?

My Smeagol's poops are getting firmer by the day... Although, I am wondering when if ever the sphynx kittens learn to stop stepping in their poop. Do any of you have adult sphynx who still do it? Or is this just all part of learning and growing?

How old is your baby? My boy is 7 months old and has had "poop foot" twice. We have his litter box set so that he can walk fully around it - it's not up against a wall. We use pine pellet litter as well. Sometimes he will sit halfway in the box and that makes it easier for him to navigate his poo when he covers it. Additionally, we don't have a cover for the box. What have you tried? My guess is that our babies do grow out of it.

He's 12 weeks old and we've only had him for 3 days! At first I figured it was because he was having wet poops. I've started adding pure pumpkin to try and harden his poops and it is happening less ever since we did that but still at least twice yesterday. He has a very large litter box. And we are using a clay based Litter. Somebody said not to use clay litter but we had bought it before we got him. I'm not sure why they said no clay litter dot-dot-dot I might switch to something else when this litter is gone depending on how expensive other litters are.

I like pine pellets because they are eco-friendly and smell good. But our boy was started on pellets by our breeder. You could try pellets in the future if you want that as an option. It is very affordable too. Smeagol probably just adjusting to his environment too. The first time our boy tracked poop everywhere it was so alarming!

@SmeagolTheSphyn awhhh adorable pics

I am sure others will chime in with their poo foot experiences with new babies ..
Stay positive! From my understanding they outgrow it

I have Learned we are all experts on “poo patrol “
I scoop litter boxes twice a day ... using clumping Dr elseys virtually dust free and a close dupe for it cheaper petsupermarket fresh for life odor destroyer in plastic bag not bucket.

I was hesitant of clay litters .. my girl years ago used yesterday’s news pellets for poo but always wanted a clay unscented to pee in .. so she had two boxes ..
My crew now is on the dust free unscented clay .

Keep us updated you will find what works for adorable Smeagol . Hopefully outgrows poo foot soon!

Hugs n head smooches

That seems odd but maybe he's still trying to figure out the right way to step around and out of the box after he does his business?

FWIW all 3 of my cats like to jump up and out of the box. I use open top boxes with really high sides. There's a side that's lower but they only use it to step in. To me it looks like they don't want to walk through the litter any more than they have to. If you happen to use a covered box they can't jump so that might be worth a shot.

I hate to say this, but Marcus is 5 years old, and he still occasionally steps in poop. He also still gets litter on his nose. And, for the first time (and it better be the last time), he got on my shoulder about a month ago, and proceeded to scrape his butt down the front of my shirt, leaving a trail of smelly poop on my shirt. He really is a dirty dude, and I can’t give you any help about your problem. Sorry!

But your little dude is a cutie!

Persephone is 5 months old, and she still gets poop foot often. I’m trying to work on firming up her stools, but I notice this normally happens at night only.

It’s like she is in a rush to get back into bed and will rush out of the litter box often with poop foot, tail or butt. During the day when we are awake and hanging out she takes her time in the box and is never messy. ‍♀️

All paws crossed for poop free feet!

I switched to large size litter boxes ... and scoop at least twice a day
and can happily say no poopy feet

Two of my boys are tall and they like the bigger boxes
Using the Catit jumbo ( door flap removed ) nice the lid folds back for easy scooping with a metal scooper .. I broke too many plastic ones lol
And the good pet stuff hidden litter box ( I don’t use the moss it comes with to prevent chewing )

Here’s to poop free toe beans!

Our baby is almost 4 months and my wife has to clean her daily. She has a x large kitty litter and is on the same litter the breeder had her on. Now her poop is runny but we are trying premade raw to try to firm it up. It seems like its never going to stop LOL. My wife has washed our sheet and herself more than she would like to mention. I think Wren has decided that if she has it.... Mommy has to have poop on her too. If anyone has any ideas please let me know Im in the same boat

LOL @Danni1988 you are not alone! Raw food will definitely solve the problem of runny poo.

Does your litter box have a cover? That forces them to walk in and out through one spot, which if there is anything there they would probably step on it. I no longer use covered boxes and all 3 of my cats like to jump out of the box. Even more interesting, they circle back to the front and put one front paw on the side of the box, and use the other front paw to cover their "deposit" .....so they are actually very careful not to touch the poo.

@Condo commando Thank you for the response. No, it does not have a cover on it. Its actually just under a table she can get out of both ends.... She poops covers some of it smells it and steps in it :| I can't help but laugh (mostly because i haven't been covered in poop yet) but she keeps doing it .
