Well, I have to admit it. I am worried. I try not to be but I am. Oliver is just over 7 months and after his rocky start things seemed to be going well the last little while. Once Oliver did his two rounds of antibiotics, (for giardia and cryptosporidium ) got neutered (and survived) and we finally went to a raw diet, after weeks of tummy upset, he had finally seemed healthy and happy. Now with his runny, weepy eyes for almost two weeks I fear that it is an early sign of FIP. He does test positive for Coronavirus, which can mutate to FIP usually within the first year or so the literature says. I have no experience with this. My furry cats that we had 19 years ago never had anything beyond a hairball. I know I shouldn't assume the worst but it is always in the back of my mind, this virus laying in waiting,,,,it is the uncertainty of it all. I am calling the vet tomorrow to see his eyes, which sometimes look okay and sometimes watery, weepy and a little irritated from being wiped. They are definitely not quite right and I hope it is just something minor but everything you read just seems so ominous ( totally should not google so much!). Trying to think positive thoughts....
I'm also worried about explaining to the vet why we decided to feed a raw diet. I know she is against it, or at least not educated about it or super knowledgeable about the different needs of sphynx's. She has seen only one in her practice. He is the only vet I can comfortably see as she only treats cats ( I am super allergic to dogs so most vets are an allergy nightmare to me).

Positive thoughts are sent. Keep an open ear/mind to what your vet says. Whether it be meds or diet changes you are trusting and paying a professional to help you with the health and welfare of your baby. Trust your gut. Please update us. Are you using L-Lysine?

Positive thoughts for both of you... Molly gets clear tears that dribble from her eyes, the vet has determined that it it just allergies. I keep them clean and use a product called "i-drops" on her, and it helps with the irritation. You are doing the right thing by being proactive, and that is all you can do. As far as feeding a raw diet, don't be scared of the vet. As long as you are feeding a balanced diet with the proper ratios of bone, organ and meat you are doing nothing wrong. Take some literature on whatever brand or recipe of raw that you are feeding to show the vet if they have questions. Good luck!!

Sending thoughts and prayers your way. I think all of us sphynx moms tend to think the worst. Positive vibes being sent.

We will keep Oliver in our prayers! He is a tough little guy, he has been ill and the coronavirus hasn't mutated through that so hopefully it won't. I would definitely ask the vet more about it.

Just catching up with thus thread. I hope the appt goes well, and that the vet listens and addresses allof your concerns. I hope Ollie improves soon and starts to feel better in no time. It can be stressful trying to figure out what isgoing on with these little guys and sometimes we with they could just tell us!

Hope to see and update soon, good luck.

You are prob right. Halo's story brought it to the forefront of my mind. It is alway there but the fun of him and daily life usually cancels it out. No matter what he is a happy, loving and playful little character. Vet appointment tomorrow at 4:30. He looks good today, not better but not as bad as over the weekend. Will let everyone know.

Couldn't get in until tomorrow. Hope your babies are feeling fine now. The internet never just says don't worry when you search for symptoms :-( so hoping the vet says it us nothing to worry about.

Just got back from the vet. $500 later,,,,I realize how much cats mask their illnesses. She said his eyes were very uncomfortable for him :-( and gave him some pain relief via injection, also sending some home to give over the next 3 days orally. She did a test to see how much tears he secretes and checked to see if his corneas were scratched. Both tests were normal. We got some eye lubricant and some antibiotic eye drops to give 4 times a day. It is some for, of conjunctivitis. She is running a DNA ( PCR) test to find out the cause of the eye infection ( chlamydia, herpes etc.). Said his eye issues are not related to Coronavirus/FIP. The test results will be back Friday morning. Vet will look at him again next week. So glad I went with my gut and brought him in, only wish I did it a bit earlier than I did. I thought it was getting better. She gave him a good ear clean while we were there ( she can get wayyyy down there). To think the little guy has still been his loving little self despite being so uncomfortable :-(. Although he has been a little grossly to my boys who are back from university ( big change in household dynamics going from just hubby and I to 3 teen boys and friends/ girlfriends). Thanks for all your good thoughts. I will let everyone know what the test results say Friday.

You are a great Mommy. I am the one on here that always says trust your gut. You will never have regrets and your baby is getting extra care. The PCR test will give your vet the needed info to really diagnose this thing. Let us know...it might have cost $500 today, but the piece of mind is priceless. I know how concerned you are about FIP. Positive thoughts will keep being sent your way.
