So, we got another 2 week course of Clavaseptin and then another check-up. He's gained 0,5 kg in the last 1-2 months and is now a sturdy 4,5 kg :D o_O Vet said this antibiotic is one with few side effects and broad spectrum, and it should be quite safe to keep it up for at least 6 weeks, maybe even longer depending on how he does on it.

Butchie was not happy being on the vet's table today though as he's come to associate it with a thermometer up his bum, which he's grown to HATE!! Fortunately he didn't need that today, but last time he did... :cautious: He was not happy then and the vet was amazed that he was actually clenching so much the thermometer kept popping out :ROFLMAO: Don't think she'd seen that before! Butchie was complaining loudly the whole time as well naturally, and rounded it off by hissing loudly at the vet when she was finally done haha!

I said to the vet, as I mentioned in post above, that he might be 75-80% better now, and I was wondering what we would try next if it just stays on 80% after 4, 6 or even 8 weeks on this antibiotic, but it's a case of crossing that bridge when we come to it... She told me to be more optimistic, but like I said to @MelissaAlice, after everything we've been through in the last 9 months, I keep my expectations low-ish...

Well it sounds like you are on the right track at least. It may just be that he has to have a nice, long course of antibiotics without any break. That way the more stubborn bacteria will have the chance to die off, too.

@Sheldon13 Yes, you're quite right - let's hope this is what it'll take to kill off those evil bacteria! And true, I haven't posted many pics of him well since this awful event and I should really make a little album on my profile. Here are a few pics of him back to his cute, lovely self :giggle:

Apologies for the very dirty window btw, but when it rains the bread gets all wet and the pigeons flick it all over the place. We don't go out on the roof terrace when it's cold, so they have it pretty much to themselves, and Butchie gets some stalking time haha! He'll creep up on them under cover of the window sill, and then jump on top of it scaring them and making them fly all over the place! A bit like sticking a kid in front of cartoons on the TV :LOL:

@Cinafina hello how's handsome Butchie?
Head smooches sent

Well,.. 4 weeks on Clavaseptin will be up on Friday, but it's not really working :( Whereas I said he was 75-80% better on it the first 2 weeks, I'd say these last 2 weeks he's been maybe 50-60% better. So, in other words, not going in the right direction and no point in keeping him on them really. I've cancelled his check-up on Friday as I don't need a vet to tell me what I already know, but will wait 2-3 weeks and then go back to see what can be done. His regular vet said some kind of blood work can be done to determine what antibiotics would work best for him, so that'll probably be the next step, unless she wants to try another type of antibiotic first. I keep putting him in his nebulizer chamber once every other day, or daily if he's a bit more congested, and it seems to help him get it out easier - just a saline solution still. One day we might find the medicine that'll work, we will keep at it! :) Thanks again for checking in! It really means a lot! I haven't been on much the last week or 2, been so busy...

Sorry to hear the meds aren't doing the trick. Your boy is so handsome. Is the nebulizer an everyday thing you can do or is that too much? Not sure as I haven't had a cat needing one just me as a kid.

Hang in there kid. You're bound to find the answer soon enough. Here's wishing your baby a speedy recovery

Thanks! Yea, it's a shame they didn't work out, but tbh, I knew in my gut they wouldn't. After nearly a year of this I've developed a bit of a sixth sense to know how he's doing, after monitoring him and his habits so closely every day! The nebulizer can be used daily with the saline solution and I usually leave him in there 15-20 mins. Thank god he doesn't actually mind it, or I'd feel awful having to do it! I think if you're using an antibiotic solution, the usage would have to be more specified so to speak, but we haven't had that yet.

So sorry to read all of this. Maybe it's not an infection... I'm a pharmacist... and sometimes infections are really food allergies/intolerances in disguise. Hope he gets better soon! ❤

Yea, it's a bit of saga now and there's no end in sight, yet anyway! I know these tests that vets perform are not always 100% correct by any means, and I keep hearing about false positives/negatives, but I feel quite confident that his Mycoplasma diagnosis was right. He had a sniffle when we picked him up from the breeder, and that will be a year ago 1 April :oops: (wow, time flies). He's not had any other reactions that seem to be common with allergies either - skin issues seem to be a common reaction to food intolerances or allergies. But thanks for saying anyway - it pays to have an open mind to these things!:)

I saw that. :(
Jez isn't on Doxy. I posted the photo of the meds in her "tests" thread, if you want to take a peek.
