Awakening from anesthesia worries

Hi everyone

My 8 year old sphynx girl will be undergoing a teeth extraction soon and I’m worried as hell about the anesthesia. I have been reading everything in here about avoiding ketamine and which other options to suggest to my vet. However I can’t seem to find anything about the awakening process. I remember when she got neutered her temperature dropped lots while waking up and it was really scary feeling her so cold. I don’t know if this is normal and if there is anything I can do, other than asking the vet to keep her in a warm room.

We’ll do blood work before the intervention and I’ve been thinking of consulting the cardiologist too but not sure if this is necessary or over worrying.

So I’m looking for some advice, everything is really appreciated.

You are doing everything right and getting the bloodwork will help put you at ease. Not sure if you are using the same vet that you used when she was spayed, but you might discuss if there is another anesthesia to use rather than the one they used then. Kudos to you for knowing Ketamine is a no go for this breed. It is normal to worry...know we are here for you. @Cocoandcirca

You can ask them to use a warming pad. They should have one they use during surgeries. Otherwise you can purchase a pet warming pad online. Some are electric and some are microwavable.

My vet is an absolute star He put my little man in the incubator before and after surgery. I took extra warm clothing with and they dressed him up when I fetched him. I always have a hot water bottle in his carry case when I take him to the vet. Even with all this care he was a totally wild maniac after his op He got the snip . I actually had to leave my house as he was so manic. My stress level was beyond my brains comprehention.
Keeping the body temperature up I too recommend an electric heating pad. Totally worth it. I got a very small one and it is so easy and makes life a dream when you need to settle them so they do not get stressed when you have workers or strangers in your home
