Do you travel with your Sphynx?

We have had Emerald for 2.5 years and she comes on all kinds of trips with us! We took her up north with us and as long as she is out of her kennel and sitting on my lap in a blanket
Keemo on the other hand, he howls in the car! Whether he is in or out of the kennel, he thinks he is going to the vet. Any tips on easy ways to get him used to the car?
We would like to be able to take him with us up north or anywhere for that matter, but I can't handle him crying and howling the 3 hour car ride.

I would suggest to start taking him on weekly car trips to places other than the vets. Maybe a trip to the pet store or just a short drive and then back home. Maybe a short drive to see a friend. This way he starts to disassociate the car and the vet.

No, I only take Izmae to the Vet. I am afraid if we would be in a accident she might get hurt or lost, then I would lose my mind.

I would like too. I am so afraid of loosing any of my kitties. I think in the spring I will get a stroller. I also have leather seats in all 3 of my cars so I don't want claw marks. I was looking at sleepy pods like everyone has, that may be a great idea. I would love to take Kiwi everywhere like Nofuratu does.

Ive been bringing Nofuratu to the grocery store for years and only been "spoken to' once...LOL....but it hasnt stopped me.
I guess anywhere they serve food is a no no, even if they are a registered therapy pet!
We've only been kicked out of Costco (twice) so we dont go there anymore, and also a local restaurant.
We've been warned a few times at wallmart but still go there, and try to keep it hush hush.
Went to eastside marios yesterday, and kept him zipped up in his sleepy pod sitting in the booth with us. No problems at all! Nofuratu had muscles with butter and parmesian cheese and was delighted!

I dont understand why "therapy pets" are not clasified the same as "service animals" like guide dogs. You cant kick a blind dog out of a restaurant! So why arent therapy pets allowed?

Ming gets car sick. She hasn't puked (yet) but she gets so drooly, she looks like a st. bernard, so we will be avoiding the car at all costs!

We have a (quite luxurious) caravan at the coast and almost every weekend from April till November we go there. And since we have Sierra, we also go there 2 weeks in the summer for our summer holiday. Already from the first weeks we had her with us, we took her along there and she is very used to it.

Because we started immediately, she is very used to travelling in the car. Though I have to admit she doesn't like her travel cage. So mostly we put her in the travel cage until all doors of the car are closed and then she can come out and curl up in a blanket on my lap. She always wears a harness and leash in the car, which is securly wrapped around my arm and hand.

At the coast she can go outside when she wants (in her harness and leash with me on the other side of the leash) and can sometimes be found sleeping in a little cat-tent besides me.

We also sometimes (1 time every year or every 2 year) go for 1 week to a bungalow park, where she can come along as well. I'm quite happy she has no problems driving or being somewhere else.

I have taken them on some vacations. they do not travel very well. if in a cat carrier, jarlaxle gets stinky diareah right away. if i hold him on my lap, he does better , but still gets stressed. he either barfs on me some time during the ride,or right as we get to the destination he barfs as the car is stopping. i gguess thats what happens when you buy a retired stud and not a kitten. that is ok. I still love him !!!!

I haven't had Boone for quite 3 months yet. I took him outside the 1st time on a 60 degree day, though it was breezy. He didn't like it. Then 2 weeks ago, I took him outside again on a much warmer day, but he was afraid of the younger kids playing outside. So, back in the house we went again. We live in a city, & I walk to do most of my errands, but I can't take him with me, because animals aren't allowed in stores or banks around here. We don't really have a back yard here @ the apartment. Its all pavement out back, but I do plan on taking him whenever we go to my daughter's place for cook outs this summer. I would also like to take him to a beautiful park about a 1/2 hour from here. It is by the ocean where there is full sunshine & also lots of shaded picnic areas. I think he would like that. I voted NO for now only because I haven't yet taken him anywhere. A trip to Petco for him will come @ some point when we run low on food.

I like your attitude, girl! I don't have a stroller as of yet. I don't even have wheels for myself I had a Mustang GT convertible but had it volunteerly repo'd in Sept of 09. My mom was helping me with the payments after a misfortune I had, but she passed away in Aug of 09. I've been without wheels since then. My daughter & son in-law pick up my groceries for us each week, so I'm not really in stores very often.

I have been looking into getting a stroller for Boone Boone. Ebay & Amazon have some real nice ones @ reasonable prices. What about going to some of the local thrift stores and just getting a human baby snuggly? I think thats what they are called....I bought mine for just a couple dollars and they are machine washable, designed to hold your baby in the front.
I used a snuggly with Nofuratu for a few years and we would just walk down the road, take the dog with us.....We would wrap him in a baby blanket like a catarpillar, so his legs wouldnt stick out the leg holes...and he loves it!! He would watch everything for a while and then doze off.

I recently upgraded to a baby sling instead, which I also got at the thrift store for just a few dollars!

Just walking him round the block would help get him used to all the crazy noises, and being snuggled with you will keep him warm and feeling secure.

Sorry to hear about your situation, and losing your mom. Our family has had a few bad years financially and emotionally and I thought it would never get better, but now we are doing great!! I hope the same happens to you!!

Thank you for your kindness. Yes, its been a rough ride emotionally. I lost my dad also in 2008. They died 13 months apart. The only positive thing that happened from losing my car was that I was finally able to afford a Sphynx cat. Not having that monthly car payment on my back made a huge difference. & I wouldn't trade my Boone Boone for anything.

I will look into your suggestions about a human baby snuggly. I'll try using it around the house 1st to see if he's going to like it before taking him outdoors with it. He's just so full of energy when he's awake. He's like a pinball:Laugh: He doesn't like to be picked up & held @ all, so I have doubts that he will stay put in a snuggly. We shall see.

I've taken ZeeBee to grandmas severals times - he loves it! She has a fenced yard so he loves to be out and watch the birds. Had a family BBQ around Easter there, and he was a big hit with all....... he does not know what a stranger is......
I've taken him into Safeway (very brief, just to florist area) and Target in a purse type carrier. He's pretty good in that. He does not like being in the carrier in the car, so I let him out if destination is home or run free at grandma. (He is SO good in the car!!!)
I have a stroller, and he's been good in that too......

Thank you for your kindness. Yes, its been a rough ride emotionally. I lost my dad also in 2008. They died 13 months apart. The only positive thing that happened from losing my car was that I was finally able to afford a Sphynx cat. Not having that monthly car payment on my back made a huge difference. & I wouldn't trade my Boone Boone for anything.

I know what you mean about deaths in the family close to eachother, and losing a parent is hard. Its like you are supposed to expect it but you are never prepared! My husbands ex wife was killed a few yrs ago in the middle of an expensive custody battle...which resulted in me becoming a new parent suddenly to grieving kids and then my mother commited suicide 3 months later, on my wedding anniversary....right before my bday. Hard emotionally, and financially it took a few yrs to recover as well! And we had to change our wedding anniversary date...LOL...too traumatic!

Nofuratu HATES to be picked up or held as well!!! LOL. I can only hold him If I have a big fuzzy blanket, otherwise forget it! He only comes for cuddling on his terms.
But he LOVES the snuggly!! Lots of stuff to look at, birds, leaves, squirrels...he doesnt mind being wrapped up in that at all...same as his stroller...as long as theres a good blanket!

Losing your parents is tough, but what makes my situation worse is that my brother & sister in-law & I haven't been on speaking terms for over 2 years now. They have our parents' ashes & won't allow me to bury them, nor will they. It just breaks my heart daily to know that they would be that spiteful against me to do something like this. Thanx for sharing your story. You & your family went through a lot as well.

Boone doesn't even like his underside touched Hopefully he'll enjoy a snuggly or a stroller as Nofuratu does. For now, there is a tree literally right outside one of our living room windows where my kitties can watch birds. Not sure what kind of a tree it is, but it blossoms & now there are berries all over it. Haven't seen a squirrel in it yet, but there were plenty of bees, & once the berries ripen, the birds always come. I leave the window open so they can smell the outdoor air. Even my Daschund sits with the cats to enjoy it

My daughter takes Elvira everywhere. She has traveled roundtrip 3x's on JetBlue. She puts her in the carrier with her favorite "blankie" She started when Elvira was 6 months old. Her carrier lets you open the top while they're waiting for the plane, so she can peek out and look around. Once on the plane, she curls up & sleeps the entire flight. Soon as she gets wherever she is going, she has a clean litter box, water & food waiting. Happy, happy to be with her mistress.

Well Jackson made the 2 day, 26 hour trip from NC to ND with only one poop indecent! 10 mins after we started out the first day he didn't make it quite all the way in the litter box, other than that he was a champ! I can now say that yes, I do travel with my sphynx. 2 adults, one teenager, one 3 year old, and a 4 month old sphynx later we made it!

Absolutely! I take Marley where ever I can. Even family gatherings! (though some of my family members aren't too fond of her. . .:Laugh I've taken her to TJ Max as well. (wasn't thinking, I had her in my car and we were on our way home from a friends house, and they were having a sale.) So I hooked her leash to her, put her on my shoulder, and walked in. Oh boy did she attract attention.

I take Elvis with me as often as I can when I go out of town!! So far he has been to Idaho once and Washington twice!! Not to mention he flew with me on a plane home he loves to ride in the car, usually sleeps the whole way or looks out the window and bathes in the sun
