My name is Amanda and I adopted a Sphynx girl named Frida 10 days ago.
Her story is unclear, but she and all her brothers and sisters were rescued by the shelter of the city I live in. Apparently, a lady who was a hoarder/breeder had more than 70 animals in her house, included 30ish sphynx and 30ish chinese crested dogs too...
Anyway, it has being quite a challenge. My Frida is very shy and she and my oldest cat Natacha doesnt get along. Also she never cleans herself and if I give her a bath she will be filthy again in less than 24 hours...
Thats it. I hope that I can find here tips and friends who will help us :)

Hi and Welcome! Thank you ,for opening not only your home, to her but also your heart. Be patient, I'm sure the two of them will get along. Sometimes it takes longer than we had hoped for, for them to be buddies. Due to the hoarding issue it may take time for Frida to feel comfortable. We love pics here. Hopefully you can post some soon. You have came to the right place to get excellent advice on anything sphynx.

Welcome to you and Frida! Thank you for opening your heart n home to her -

Take it slow, keep separated at first with lots of play praise and treats - I kept my shy adopted Macie cat in her own room for a couple of weeks and rotated free roam of the house- she hid under the bed for a month! I lay on the floor talking to her out down treats and waved a pole toy under the bed slowly.. Building a trust foundation with me..
She took a month before she would even sniff up under the door at other kitty.. I used a straw under the door and treats tossed under the door , then finally a peek thru the door -

I also cross scented rubbing a hand towel on each and leaving it each kitties spot- you can put the food dish on top of the cross scented towel to make positive association..

I would rotate kitty zones for a few weeks- you will see kitty all of a sudden get more confident exploring on its own at first- it will learn its safe spot too :)

My butt used to hurt laying on the tile floor talking to her under the bed :) for30 minutes at a time:)
Now she never shuts up :) talks to me all the time and runs warp8 up her kitty mansions cat tre

Lots of love and patience

Please share pics of Frida

Thank you for giving her what she needs most - a loving caring mum!

Welcome to the Lair,
It is a great community of sphynx lovers.
I brought home a girl that was 2 years old last July. @Yoda mom had great suggestions that I would follow for easy transition. ( well easier);) I can tell you it took time but with each week and months that passed there were milestones made to enjoy & celebrate.
Since these naked babies seek out a source of heat throw a soft fleece in the dryer and encourage her with yummy treats to sit on your lap. That will reinforce a positive and trusting feeling of comfort. And alternating each kitty in and out of areas of the house is very good advise.
Keep us posted, be patient these are wonderful creatures. Pictures we love also
