Looking to adopt in New York

Hello! I’ve been looking to adopt a Sphynx in the nyc area (also open to traveling beyond the tri state area).

I work from home and have the time/resources to give a Sphynx the love it deserves. Would love to know if anyone has any recommendations for rescues that specialize in Sphynx cats (I’ve tried Googling but haven’t found any strong leads).

Welcome to SL. You might start making connections with breeders so if they have any breeding cats they are looking to retire it might be a good fit for you. Check this area of the group regularly. Once one is posted they go fast.

Thanks for the advice! @Catzzzmeow Part of me was hesitant to message breeders for their retirees in case it came off as rude.

@cybelle97 , welcome to the lair family. I have all adoptees. two from a member, one retiree, and one from a near scam craigslist ad.

I reached out to a reputable breeder and adopted a wonderful 2 yr old, HCM scanned, fully vetted ,etc. she is now 12 yrs old. sooo cuddly velcro.
I personally do not think it is rude to reach out about retirees.

stay active with us here, several of us have adopted from members. I adopted a bonded pair from a member.

How to Detect fraud sphynx cat adoption ads

What are some blatant and obvious signs of fraud or scams have you read about or stumble upon? Have any tips to avoid fishy transactions and deals. I would love to know some pointers, feel free to share.
