Don't know what kind of vet clinic is this. The visit was unsuccessful, the doctor did not arrive at 8 p.m as said by some of the residents. We're going to search for another one.It may be not as close but that's not a problem

You want to have a good feeling about your Vet.
Feel you can trust them, believe they know, what
They are doing. I'm sure, you been told, to not, let
them, use Ketamine. Ask before hand if they use it
and if they say yes, tell them, you don't want it used.
It's to dangerous for Sphynx, if there, should be a unknown
heart condition. Don't chance it.

Unfortunately there are no vets here (that i have found yet) that has a good knowledge of sphynxes. My boy has severe entropian and he desperately needs the op (i have tried alllll the creams and eyedrops the vet has prescribed with zero success) and the operation day was set twice and both times the vet cancelled with really bad excuses. Before the first date was set i asked what anasthesia will be used and they said Ketomine after which i had to send them articles about why not to use it on a sphynx! Then the vet cancelled 4 hours prior the operation because he had a funeral to attend (fair enough it can happen to anybody). After two days i finally get hold of the vet again and he schedules the op for the following Saturday (that was 5 days ago). Gave my boy a bath the morning and stopped his food 6 hours before the operation time, i call the vet to double-confirm everything is still set aaaand he says no again he cannot do the op coz they dont have oxygen!!!! Come on no oxygen? What about emergencies or unexpected surgeries, are u gonna turn pets away? Well that was Saturday and i asked him when will he do the op and he said he will re-schedule and let me know. Today is Wednesday and i have already sent messages again with no reply my feeling/suspision? Not enough is known about sphynxes here so im being kept on a string. I have spoken to another hugely popular vet here but his detailed knowledge or experience with sphynes? zero. My boy is only the second sphynx that the clinic has seen since they opened Now i know this can be a blessing in disguise and the reason why he is still alive but on the flip-side he really needs this operation as his eyes are progressively getting worse and it kills me to see him in so much discomfort

I have found one.Called him today to arrange an appointment for Mao to be castrated and he told me I should wait until 8 months(age of maturity) before doing it.As for HCM,altogether it would cost 500 L.E(X-Ray=300 and the other thing is for 200).He has two clinics, one in Haram and the other close to where I live(30 min walk)

A few hours ago I was busy in the kitchen....and I turn around to the sound of choking/coughing.I saw Mao's favorite toy dangling by the string in front of his mouth...and almost got a heart attack. It seems he has started eating some of the string and it was stuck. Not wasting time,I pulled it out and hid the toy out of his reach

You deserve a pic
Our little bird watcher(Mao) climbed up on the kitchen window thinking he could get a dove

8 months is a bit late on the late side from what we have seen. Hope your boy does not start spraying /having behavioral issues waiting that long. 5 pounds or 6 months (whichever comes first) is a rule of thumb my breeder uses and most vets agree. Usually by 6 months they are about to mature sexually. We have seen some as young as 4 months act out. If you see signs of aggression, spraying, howling, or trying to escape begin, do not wait a day longer...make the appointment.

@Hairless Blessing I was told there's something else that starts with"inf" but don't remember it

The pricing seems right, but honestly, procedures vary from country to country and even vet to vet.

Lots of good advice here!

Mao's a cutie!

@MaoSphynx pffew I almost got a heartattack by reading your post about Mao eating the toy. Very happy you were there to get the toy out of his mouth.

If it's possible I would ask the vet to neuter him around 6 months.
My boys were neutered when they were 12 weeks old, the breeder took care if it. I know the opinios vary on neutering so young. But I know there is agreement on neutering at 6 months.

Mao is such an active cute boy. Love seeing pics of him.
