I am brand new to this breed and I pick up my baby girl in 2 weeks. I've been attempting to do as much research as possible. I'm having a hard time deciding on a solid, healthy cat food. I cannot do a raw diet, as our lifestyle will not allow it.

We travel in our RV for business and we need a simpler diet of wet and
dry foods.

I'm hoping for some recommendations from your average pet store. Since we travel, it cannot be something that must be gotten at a vet clinic. Any help is GREATLY appreciated as I'm rather overwhelmed in the pet food aisles!

Hi,

We have used Science Diet wet and dry since day 1 with both our sphynx without issue. Here is a good poll on "What brand cat food do you use?" http://sphynxlair.com/community/threads/what-brand-cat-food-do-you-use.60/ Oh - and welcome! :)

I am on Raw now with all mine, but we started out with "Taste of the Wild" dry and can and our Vet said it was excellent food.

I've also read that wet food is better than dry. Is there any truth to this?

Thanks for all if the replies so far!

@JennaJoy wet food is known to help hydrate more than dry food and can help, reduce the possibility of crystals in the urinary tract...especially in male cats.

I think you need to feed wet and dry. They need wet for moisture and dry for their teeth.
Royal Canin, Nutro Max Cat is two good ones. You will probably need to get them at a petco or petsmart store.
Or some pet store. There will be others chime in.

What is your breeder feeding her? If it is something like Royal Canin then I would not change her food! I am getting my first sphynx kitten as well. He wont be able to come home with us until the end of October. Our breeder feeds all of her cats and kittens Royal Canin and my husband and I decided it was in his best interest that we not change his diet as we wanted to feed him a very good healthy food for Sphynxes.

Obviously, I want to feed her the best food I can...however, that Wellness Core is pretty dang expensive! It would probably be cheaper to do raw. Maybe I'll just try it and see how it goes...?? I didn't realize I'd be so conflicted just feeding her! I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed!

I kept feeding mine the same as the breeder feeds. 'Authority' from Pet Smart, and every night I feed them a little bit of Taste of the Wild wet food

When researching food I checked out pet food advisor and pet food ratings on line.. I looked at ingredients and checked recall history details ..

Soo many darn choices out there .. With having a motorcoach I probably would try to stick to a good quality dry food and stick to what is working for her..in the long run it can be less vet visits and that would be important traveling in a motor coach for me .

You may find with the higher quality food the serving size is less too- so it all comes out in the long run-

I can only get one of my kitties to eat wet food- I do find Changing their water 2-3 times a day encourages them to drink more- I still keep a case of wet food on hand for my little piggy..

I would recommend a few cans of 100% pure pumpkin like Libby's to keep on board in the motor coach ..it helps firm up their poo ..
My one boy likes a 1/2 teaspoon of the pure pumpkin warmed with a little l-lysine powder mixed in

I personally would ask what the breeder is feeding and go from there. My Hairry Yoda did great on cheap dry cat food but Fuzzy can't stomach it. I feed Simply Nourish it's high in protein and they have a kitten formula. You will get to know your baby and will figure out what he likes best.
