This test is available to all of us, pet owners and breeders.

Taking the test can help save lives.

More information can be found here:

We are so lucky to be able to make better breeding decisions based on this data.

This will save lives and heartache.

I mailed out my boys blood samples Friday. Fingers crossed they make it through customs and to the university safely!

Good luck I hope they reach the safety of the University.

@Bailey21 Do you know what the difference is with providing blood versus a sample of the cheek cells?

@pussiette there is no difference, but I got an email from the University that they were having trouble getting enough customs forms to send the swabs to countries outside the US, and I already had a vet appt for my boys so I opted for the blood rather then trying to find my own swabs.

@Sheldon13 I believe so but they're really behind on swabs because of what I said above. They're advising if you don't want to wait to purchase your own swabs and mail them to them. That's what my breeder is doing.

@Bailey21 thank you for sharing that information it’s good to know that if people are having difficulty getting the swabs that they can opt for blood sampling if they want to get it done fairly soon.

That’s really good information thank you.

I am waiting for mine to arrive in the mail and then my girl will get her test done at the vet. For those members who want to get their cats tested you don’t need to use the brush you can get a simple blood test from the vet to check for HCM DNA if you can’t get the brush for the DNA swab in the mouth there is always that option.

Just a heads up for those that might want to opt for the blood, be prepared for a nasty bruise after. If I could've gotten the swabs I would've much rather done that rather than have my boys poked with a needle. Not to mention the swabs are free to do at home, where as your vet will charge you to draw blood. Just something to think about :)

I got an email last night that the lab received my blood samples. I'll get an email with my results in the next 4 weeks.

Great job gals so responsible ❤️ You can enter results as well Please Share Your Sphynx HCM DNA Results

If everyone got this done the sample size would help understand HCM especially penetrance.

In Australia this test will be mandatory for some breeders by their cat fancier associations.

Unfortunately I can’t enter my Cattery name so it won’t be of much help. But I will be staying the results with my breeder and she can certainly choose to enter it.

That’s a really interesting wheel. A lot more negatives than I expected, actually.
