I appreciate all your support! It was just very discouraging to find out after losing Toulouse to it last year. I'm glad we seemed to catch it early, so hopefully the meds will help and he'll continue to be a menace to society for a long time yet!
Our other two are doing really well, although baby Bunny continues to have runny eyes and sneezing, which I think is just her day to day life now. She adores her big brother Leo, who she thinks is a massive pillow.

Lynnie is at the vet with another gas blockage. He refused his wet food this morning so I took him straight to the vet, and of course after bloodwork came back fine, she did x-rays and found the blockage. We're trying fluids and some medication first before another surgery.

Has anyone had experience with this before? I'm thinking of switching to raw food to see if that would help. Any advice is appreciated.

@Yoda mom No news from the vet yet, aside from they've had him out almost constantly. I ended up taking off work today because my anxiety is so bad that my stomach is upset, plus I went to the doctor and I have a double ear infection. Hopefully I'll hear something soon

Well, got an update, but a very neutral one. His x-rays haven't improved, but he did eat a bit and drank last night. They're giving him a bit more medicine in the hopes that it'll resolve itself without further intervention because they would really prefer to not do surgery unless they have to. They would like to send him home today, but I haven't heard anything further.

Yay…so happy to see this update. Does your vet have a recommendation on how to avoid this issue in the future?

Unfortunately, nothing immediate. She's looking into fiber response diets to see if that would help. I was thinking raw, but until the vet figures out what (if anything) will help, she recommends holding off on diet changes.

I don’t recall…have you tried giving a tablespoon of pure canned pumpkin 2 times a day? Not pie filling.

It is a great natural source of fiber. Maybe inquire with your vet if some of the products used for hairballs might help move things along the GI tract as well? @MaddieP

I actually do use a hairball food for them, I did before toulouse passed and they really liked it, better than any other dry I tried to switch them to, so they've stayed on it. I'm going to use the probiotics the vet sent me and then see about pumpkin or OTC probiotics.
He's still acting a little unusual (wasn't hounding me to steal my food while I ate) so I'm definitely still concerned.
I *almost* got a Lykoi Sunday, and I'm glad something in me told me not to, because that would've been a lot.

You might look at using the hairball gels not just the food. It comes in a tube. We used it when we had our Bengal. He was great and liked the taste and licked it off our finger…some don’t like the taste and you can simply apply to their paw and they lick it clean. Great pic of you with the Lykoi.

@Catzzzmeow I'll have to try that. Now that I'm thinking about it, I realize that he might have gotten ahold of a Cheeto, and that could've upset his digestive tract. He snuck into the pantry and stole a snack bag of them, and even though I thought I caught him before he ate any, he might have managed to sneak a piece. The little gremlin is definitely a problem child.

In other news, we are (or possibly were) thinking of adding another cat to the family. I miss Toulouse dearly, and I've had coated cats my whole life, so even though Sphynx are definitely my heart breed, I wouldn't mind having a longhair again. Or possibly a Lykoi, the boy I met seemed to have a similar temperament to Lynnie (without the Sphynx heart issues).

@MaddieP , awh. so glad he was able to come home today! I use a urinary hairball formula for years , especially with Batman my dry food addict.he refuses any wet food, along with nutrisource cat and kitten food (touted for gut health in blue/white bag). I read years ago the fiber helps. he really likes the hills urinary hairball. no skin or poo issues with it and the nutrisource with my crew.
my Toby Love enjoys a half teaspoon of the 100% pure canned pumpkin, no spice ingredients. if libbys is out of stock I have found the walmart 100% pure canned pumpkin. he likes it heated a little, a couple of seconds in the microwave and I check to see it is not too hot. for some reason he likes it a little warmed. you can freeze the pumpkin in covered icecube trays.

oh, I wonder if he did sneak a little cheeto? continued positive vibes!

Beloved Toulouse will send you a furbaby one when the time is right. (adorable pic of the Lykoi. some other members have as well. ).

following closely for updates on sweet Lynnie.

He's doing a ton better, following me around and climbing on me, begging for food at every opportunity! He does need to gain back a decent amount of weight, so he's getting extra food to help. Poor thing hates his metronidazole and drools profusely with it, so I might be trying to get a different medicine for him.
