He's home!!

He ran straight to the litter box, pigged out on some food and then passed out under his blanket. He'll probably stay there for the rest of the night...

He was a big hit at the clinic today. His surgery was scheduled for noon, but an emergency came in so they had to push his surgery back to 3:00. The tech told me about a million people were playing with him all day and that every time someone walked past his cage, he would reach his paw through the bars and grab them as if to say "hey you, come pet me!"

His eye looks really good - what I can see of it - it's got 3 or 4 stitches keeping it partially closed, but there's no swelling whatsoever. I have to keep up with all the drops I've been giving him for the past month and go back in 3 weeks to have the stitches out and hopefully this will all be behind us!

Nelson and I thank you all for your support and well wishes!!

How's he doing today?

Thanks for checking in!

He's doing well, starting to act more like his old self...harassing Walter a little bit (much to Walter's dismay,) so I can already tell he is in a lot less pain  but there's some nasty discharge coming out of his eye. It's nothing I wouldn't expect, considering the type of surgery that was done (actually cutting off part of his eye) but the problem is he won't let me clean it at all. If I even try to just barely touch it with a Q-tip to pull the goopy stuff off, he jerks his head away. So, now there's a big blob of dried eye goop on top of his eye where the stitches are. :Badly2:

I can't pick it off - first of all, he won't let me, but I'm also afraid it would rip his stitches out. So, I'll just keep putting some saline on it and hope it softens up enough to fall off on it's own. Of course, it's a holiday weekend, so I can't get in touch with the doctor until Monday! :Dizzy:

Fortunately, I can still open a little corner of his eye just enough to get the drops in there. Jeez, I really hope when we go back in 3 weeks, the doctor cuts those stitches off to reveal a perfectly healed, beautiful green eye looking back at me!

Can you wrap him up tightly in a towel? Or even better get someone else to hold him wrapped up while you clean his eye?

Poor boy, I hope it heals up nicely.

He's actually very, very well behaved for whatever I need to do to him. It's just the first night he was here, I couldn't clean it and didn't want to force the issue because I figured it was probably very painful (and i was home alone, so no one to help hold him...) Now it's all dried up and I'm afraid to pick the crust off because it's all dried around his stitches. I'm afraid if I pull it off it will rip the stitches out.

Hopefully I can get it to soften up with some saline and maybe by then it won't be so painful? He's letting Mandy and Helen lick his face now...maybe one of the girls will be able to clean it for me!! Fingers crossed!!!

They'll do the job, just be careful they don't get it infected, or their rough tongues don't bother it.
Sounds like he's in the best hands possible. Really hope it heals quickly Brooke.

Hey Brooke...how is Nelson doing in the mean time ?? I hope he's doing much better already

Thank you for checking in! He is doing well, still tolerating me and all the drops I keep putting in his eyes! I think I'm annoying the ophthalmologist because I call him quite often to ask questions, but so far everything I've asked about (is this discharge okay, are all the drops going in his eye, etc.) is normal and right on track..

Only 11 more days until the stitches come out!

Glad to hear good news about Nelson! Don't worry about bothering the ophthalmologist - better to be on the safe side- plus its his job! I always feel that way too so I have to remind myself.

Can you imagine what Nelson will be thinking when he gets to open his eye all the way for the first time in weeks?! I'm thinking - WOW, What the- , :Hysterical::LOL:.

Good to hear that Nelson is behaving
