Wow, um.. Now what?

A while back I had to re-home a boy, it was the hardest thing I have ever done. He was very very sweet. I already had his daughter and she did not like him at all. The fighting had gotten so bad and violent. Then there was also the poop and pee when they would get in a fight. We were also going to be living in an RV, it was never going to work. We felt we had to choose to keep the girl as we had had her since a kitten. He was a retired breeder and I knew and trusted the Breeder. I contacted the Breeder and she stepped up to take him if need be. I told her I would look for someone, and with the help of another pet owner we found the perfect home for him. That was my only concern, the two cats!!! It worked out we were able to take him to the new home. Our charge for the re-homing? $0.00 It never entered my mind to charge someone to home him. All I wanted was a good home for him and had no idea that most anyone that does this would charge???? Guess I was just stupid?? If I had it to do over? Still would be $0.00, I figure this person helped me and the sweet boy.

I also agree with the rest on here, I would get Vet information, if he is healthy then maybe be ok. As long as you are prepared if there is a health issue, that said, even with all the precautions there is no guarantee that any cat or kitten will not have issues. There is always a risk.
Hope it works out for you and can't wait for pictures if you get him!!

I'm kind of torn about what you should do. Part of me thinks that you shouldn't adopt him because he hasn't been tested. Obviously, this cat is an investment and you don't want to put everything you have into him and only have him for a short amount of time. However, the lady he is with doesn't seem concerned about the well-being of the cat at all. She sounds more concerned about the money she is going to make off of him, which makes me wonder how great of a home life he has. I would be more inclined to adopt him because he seems to be in a bad situation, regardless of how long I had with him.

Its ok about the advice part. The better thinking part of my brain tells me to pass it up, but the hopeful part tells me that if he were to have HCM, he should have shown signs by now. (Yes I know this isnt true, that it can pop up at anytime, please dont jump down my throat). But the way I figure it, if he's going to get it, he's going to get it. I can try to help him the best I can, by constant medication, or by a peaceful sleep. I have a very accepting heart. My last pet/love of my life was killed maliciously by another dog. And that was the hardest thing I could have ever went through. If Harry or any other Sphyx I adopt ends up with HCM, then so be it, at least I know I can end their suffering peacefully. Harry and any other sphyx I own, will have love, care, and compassion. I figure what the hell, your never gonna know unless you do it.

P.S. Yes I am crazy!

You're not crazy, just motivated by love. Regardless whether or not Harry has HCM, he will be loved and cared for which is so much better than how some poor kitties have it.

From the breeder. Any input?

The reason I use kitten food is because typically because Sphynx burn more calories keeping warm than a haired cat. I also as far as litter goes use Tidy Cat Clay cat litter mixed with about 2/5 of a cheap clumping litter. This way you still have clumping litter but not too clumpy and it is tons cheaper. I use Hartz ear cleansing solution you can get it anywhere it works the best. To clean toenails I use baby wipes that contain a lot of lanolin Target brand work the best. Baby Shampoo tearless unless really dirty then I add a couple drops of dawn to the baby shampoo. I keep a bed with a warm heating pad under the cushion with a warm blanket for them to snuggle and burrow into even in the summer if you keep a cool air conditioned house. I also get them walmart or pet co xs or s sweaters for dogs if it is really drafty or you think he looks cold. Like today they all have sweater on and love it. For walking them I get a harness with furry covered straps because they get irritated skin or blisters on the normal small dog harnesses and if he hasn't been trained yet a collar is not going to work at first. Petco has these vests with a clip on them for a leash they are perfect. Obviously these things are not all necessary but these are just things I have learned along the way. Oh yeah. Baths I don't know how he I for baths but I put a washcloth on the bottom of the sink And have it prefilled and have a dim light on. And then use another washcloth to gently scrub their skin. Then I wrap them in a towel. Put the ear cleaning solution about three or four drops in each ear. I gently message the ears to loosen any dirt. And I use Q tip brand Qtips to gently clean their ears but not too deep. Q tips seem to have more padding. and are more absorbent than generics. I always try to make sure that their ears are pretty dry when I finish. This is due to the fact that fungal infections can occur very easily in dog or cats ears if they get wet and stay wet. Fungal spores love dark warm wet environments and they are very hard to get rid of once they set in. Since they are bathed pretty often I try to as a precaution get their ears pretty dry after baths and cleaning and not to drench them with water when I do give them a bath.
Then I clean their nails and up. Into the place where their nails are kept when they are not in use. Then I clip them of course not too far up into the quick.
Ok that's my little speech. You will find your own ways of doing things etc. This is just my way and so long as you love and care for Harry physically and psychologically you of course can do things the way that is easiest and works out the best way for you. I can hardly wait for you to meet him!!))
