Wow, um.. Now what?

I don't own a Sphynx yet; so I can't offer you much personal advice on any of the grooming techniques that she recommended. But, to me, it does sound like she cares about Harry and wants what is best for him! So that seems good to me. The whole thing about 2/5 of cheap litter and mixing the 2 brands seems odd to me. I like to just use 1 at a time...but, that's my preference. To each his own. And the whole thing about feeding an adult cat kitten food doesn't sound right to me. After a year of age, that is when you typically start feeding a cat adult food. Sphynxes do have faster metabolisms for heat; and do eat more than the average cat, but that doesn't mean to me that you should be feeding kitten food.

I would stop the kitten food...he's 3 years old...right ? Kittenfood is up to one year of age....

I too would change his food to adult food. Do a gradual change. Get the food she is currently using for him and mix it with the new food you want to start him on over a gradual period of time. So you don't shock his system.

The breeder and I were supposed to talk today to confirm what time we are meeting tomorrow. I've called her 3 times in the last two hours, and it seems that her phone is off. Straight to voice mail... I just spoke with her yesterday.

Breeder text me at 630 this AM. Apparently her Grandmother fell and broke her hip early this morning. The deal is off until tomorrow. Well I played detective and called BOTH hospitals in her town. No one came in today with a hip fracture. Sooo... WTF?!? Super pissy now.

This happened to me when I was looking for a chinese crested. I found one, talked to the owner, set up an appt to go see/get her and on my way out the door she texted that her child had fallen off a trampoline and was in the hospital! as a mom, I was so worried, I was praying for that child to be okay! She never answered any of my future calls or texts. A couple of days later I found out that she had lied and had decided to give the puppy to her mom in law who is a crested rescue rep in our area instead! Why lie about your child????? The karma bus is gonna hit that full speed!

I hope your situation is not the same, but for the most part, people suck, lol. You will find the right kitty, just like I found the right dog!

This breeder sounds like a complete worm (like where I got my kitty from - at age 3). I am glad you are no longer getting a kitten from her. Sounds like she made up a story because for whatever reason she couldn't meet with you today. She may have gotten a better deal (money wise) for someone else to take the cat out from under you. I hope that is not the case!

This is a tough call. I adopted my Isis for only $150 from a local "breeder" who wanted to get rid of her because she would not go into heat and had "allergies". She was so darling and precious when I went out to meet her, but little did I know what a can of worms I was opening. She came with no vet records and I didn't know about HCM at the time, but she was not scanned for that. The bredder assured me that she had been checked out by a vet and was perfectly healthy. Turned out she was up to date on her vaccinations either, which I learned later. $1000+ vet bills and 4 months later and I think we are finally over the hump. She came to me with Giardia (which she gave to my dogs), Feline Herpes outbreak and infection, horrible gingivitis and a loose tooth, and IBD. As well as needing to be spayed.

I am saying all this not to scare you, but just to make sure that you have vet records and all of these things have been ruled out and you are getting a healthy cat. I love my Isis dearly, but if I had to do it all over again, I would have done more research and saved up for a healthy kitten or retired adult from a reputable breeder. Maybe this is a sign that you need to wait?? I know it is hard when you want a Spyhnx so badly, but it may be the best option for you. I would hate to see you get into a situation like mine.

Just something people need to stop and think about before completely bashing this woman. Just because the OP cannot locate someone in a hospital with a hip fracture does not mean it didn't happen. Because we all know how well ran hospitals are- they are always up to the minute on information and totally willing to release it to strangers on the phone! (And yeah- if you call and ask about an injury, but cannot name the individual you are looking for- there might be an issue).

Sometimes, poop happens. Sure, she may end up being a shady person and you may not get this cat- on the other hand, she might be a normal person who has hit hard times and will require patience to work with.

My second stud- it took about two MONTHS before I could bring him home because his breeder kept having issues with the drop-off (we were meeting halfway). She's just a hectic, busy person. It drove me up the wall to the point where I wanted to call it off more then once! But I waited and finally met up with her and got the perfect sweet boy I was expecting.

I hope her Grandmother is OK. But (I hope this does not sound bad of me) I hope that it was a hip break, and not an excuse to get out of the meeting today.. I dont know what to think anymore. I WANT to believe her, but it seems that she is just pulling my leg. She told me that she would call me at noon. I called her 3 times, she let it go to Vmail. I even offered to drive the WHOLE way to pick Harry up. No reply. She text me and told me that she'd have to get back to me this evening, and that her sister in law would be able to meet me with Harry at our half way point tomorrow. Im so torn up inside about this all. My daughter is heart broken. "Mom, you didnt get my kitty today?!?" If it doesn't work out, so be it. But damnit, just tell me something lady!!

Try to hang in there and as much as we all hate the saying if it is meant to be, it will happen. I rescued my little girl Sphynx (yes for a fee) and also had issues with getting in touch with the woman getting rid of her. She did not return my call for a full day, so I was so disappointed. Turned out her 2 year old threw her cell phone in a glass of apple juice and she had to get a new phone. She never thought of shooting me an e-mail!

I would think in most cases rescues are not coming from well organized homes/backgrounds. No matter what, I know it does not take away from your disappointment. In the meantime set up a vet appointment just in case. My rescue had ringworm and the vet never checked for it as it looks so different on a hairless cat. It was a nightmare and we all got it. Took months to finally get rid of it and stressful. If you do get the kitty, keep it limited to a small room until you get the clean bill of health.
