@Nigelthomas @Nicolemorgan -- hello, fellow Canadians.

I used to use Dr. Elsey's and feel it's definitely one of the best litters out there. But once I tried Intersand's OdourLock (Canadian, YAY!), I won't use anything else.

INTERSAND® - Odourlock - Unscented

The packaging says you use less litter than other brands, which I thought was impossible... but yes, I use less of this litter than I did any of the others I tried. I have nooooo idea how this works except that less is needed to clump my nakeds' waste. I feed raw, so they pee a LOT, and I think this litter is a miracle.

This litter is very popular in Ontario but not so much outside the province. I'm in BC and where I used to buy it (Tisol), they've stopped carrying it. I contacted Intersand who led me to the West Coast supplier of pet supply places who led me to a nearby pet shop that will bring this in for me (they carry other Intersand products but not OdourLock -- but they're happy to bring it in for me).

Any way, if you can't find Dr. Elsey's contact Intersand directly for who carries OdourLock in your area.

Cheers!
My concern is his allergy to clay aren't they all made of the same stuff if it's clay? His Oder buster didn't bother me although it seems could be what's giving him the rash. Not going to lie seems like since yesterday the spots are changing almost fading. I also have him a bath last night as well. Fingers crossed this helps but thanks for the advice of the litter. If I need to change again it will def be an option

I will let you know for sure! Our boys are both on raw as well, so pee a lot. We do clean the litter boxes every evening. Do you find that is accumulates at the bottom of the litter? Or just it clump pretty quick so it doesn't get to the bottom? Sorry for all the questions :)

I maintain a box that is fairly deep (about 6 inches) in terms of litter, as well as length and width. Max loves digging, and so does Min it turns out, so I give them lots to dig with LOL.

The litter clumps very quickly (which is probably why less is used). I scoop about 6-10 times a day to keep it as clean as possible for them.

@Nigelthomas he is gorgeous!
When you describe the spot where he slept in your bed last night...it totally sounds like you are describing "sphynx rust"! It's their oils and sweat and whatever else that sticks to them such as the dust of a colored kitty litter. If you bathe him well and rinse a few times, do you still see that red belly?
Lol he had a bath last night. It's the dust from the walnut litter. Cause there are other spots and his clean otherwise lol. Oh Nigel way to make mom have more laundry

Thanks for letting me know @Xandria ! Sounds like it does clump quick!
We have two litter boxes, and both are about 5-6 inches deep as well, so sounds like it would work great.
I like the corn because it is flushable, easy to use, and they really like it. But of course I love my babies more, and if it can cause yeast infections like some have said, I would never want that for Loki and Gatsby. We've been using the corn for 2.5 years without issue...but I guess there is always that what if. I wonder what it is about corn that causes this...

Do you think it's really gonna stain him??? Or just make him dirty till he has a bath. Does anyone use the stuff??

That's the only litter I never tried and won't...so I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't think it would stain him permanently. When you bathe him, does he come out very clean?

I just started the litter yesterday to see if it help the rash. I read about the wheat ones and bugs being in the bags and the vet recommend I don't use a corn litter as they are most common for causing yeast infections and I read about why not to use corn litter as for the same reasons most owners don't want this product as a filler in their animals food. Actually points I had never even though about. I was looking for something natural that wouldn't irritate his skin and had to move away from clay. I wish there was someone on here who actually used the walnut littler who could answer these questions for me

Off hand, I have no idea which member(s) over the years mentioned they tried the walnut litter. I only recall complaints about their "brown" nakeds. Sorry @Nigelthomas wish I could help you more.

I appreciate all responses. I have read a lot. People complain and others love it. So far no smell and no dust I can see. But Nigel did bring some into bed last night. I'm doing the switch only to see if it's an allergy. And hoping for a good outcome. If it means more laundry but no more rash then I'll take the good with the bad. Maybe it's a food allergy. But only one thing at a time can be changed.

@Nigelthomas yes, you are right about only changing one thing at a time and if the corn litter was the culprit, then doing extra laundry can be a good trade-off. :) Best of luck, keep us updated please.

@Nigelthomas , Head bumps to your handsome boy! Keep us posted

I have 4 sphynx - no skin issues or dust , no respiratory issues using Dr elseys unscented in blue bag
Hypoallergenic , 99.9 % dust free , clumps well and I can breathe pouring it into another container no dust cloud :)

I have heard the same things about walnut litter so never used it

Also was told to stay away from corn litters too

Shampoo - love love Hylyt shampoo - soap free hypoallergenic
Also their Avenalyt shampoo I mix with it now for super soft skin :)

fyi for future note on food -My sphynx kitties love love Acana grasslands kibble (made in Canada for Canadian orders - now made in Kentucky for USA orders - never recalled)
No skin issues - no poo issues even with a hard switch not by choice ( previous Halo food recalled)

Well, good news @Xandria! :)
Through a couple weeks of researching and then contacting Intersand, and then distributors, and then pet stores...haha, there was a lot of phone calls. Finally a pet store close to us agreed to order the Odourlock Litter in for us! :) Yay.
We pick it up tomorrow..and I am so excited to try this for the boys.

Any tips on adjustment? I thought I read somewhere that you fill the litterbox like 3/4 full of the new litter. And then place about 1" of their old litter over top. This will help them adjust.

Thanks again for the litter suggestions @Xandria

Hi there! Congrats on finding this awesome litter. Well, you could just dump it all in and see what happens. I never had issues with Max or Min adjusting and never transitioned. You could do the part new and part old litter if you're concerned. But Odourlock is just awesome.

Let me know how it goes! woot!!!!

We have two litter boxes, so we ended up just switching one litter box over to the Odour-lock, and kept the other one filled with the Worlds Best. Just so they had options. BUUUUT...they LOVE the Intersand. Gatsby didn't even wait for us to finish getting everything all done. He went in instantly.

Loki played around in it a bunch and walked away. But then we saw him in it twice later yesterday evening.
Soooo, I'd say it's a hit! :D And we will be switching both to the Odour-lock today.

Thanks so much @Xandria for the suggestion! It also clumps SO well!!
