Hi all, I haven't posted much as I am really stressed about Gummi. She had gotten over her URI and coccidea, but still had runny diarrhea, I took her back to the vet last week and she was treated for giardia, just in case, also I bought brand new litter boxes, and have been steam mopping the floors daily to kill any germs. two days ago she stopped eating and started vomiting, her poop is now just water:Cry: She has been tested for everything under the sun, and comes up clear every time. She was eating pumpkin, but now has stopped eating altogether, she is so weak and thin. she is trying to eat, I know, because she vomited three times this morning and it had kibble in it, but nothing is staying down. None of the other cats are sick. We are off to the vet again now, but I have no idea what more can be done for her. He is talking about sending her to a specialist upstate, honestly, I don't know if I can afford that. I skipped my house payment this month to pay her medical bills to date, and am fast running out of money. Please pray she feels better soon, I can't find any chemicals she may have gotten into.

We will definitely keep you and Gummi in our thoughts! Just a thought, Abby had a similar problem and we finally figured out she had been chewing (not eating) a Christmas Cactus we had. Have you checked all you houseplants?

Good luck!

Thanks guys, I just found out that my vet is out of town today, so I made her an appt. with another vet, maybe a fresh perspective will be good anyway.

We have no houseplants, I have a black thumb with plants :(

Oh no! You must just be sick with worry. I hope, hope, hope wee Gummi recovers without breaking the bank.

The love you have for that little sweetheart is so obvious. If love could cure, she'd be 100% healthy.

Keeping you and Gummi in my thoughts.

I was surprised and saddened to read this. I thought Gummi was all better and had no idea that you have been been dealing with worsening symptoms. My heartfelt prayers and healing thoughts are going out to both of you. <hugs> Keep strong and hopeful. Keep us updated, and please me know if I can help in anyway.

Oh no, I really hope you find some answers. It is so difficult not knowing what is going on or what you can do for her. But you're right, a new perspective might be a good thing. Thinkin' of you and your sweet Gummi.

I am hoping that this vet will have the answers. Do you think Gummie might need some probiotics (the healthy and beneficial bacteria needed in the gut)? I Gummie has been on a lot of meds and antibiotics then the gut flora may be out of whack. I don't know I want to help so bad. Our prayers are with you.

I to think seeing a new vet is a good thing. My thought is that giardia is still present and the cause of this. It is very hard to get rid of and sometimes has to be treated more than once.

I'm so sorry to hear about Gummi. That is heartbreaking news. I went through the exact same thing a few months back. I thought my Cosmo was going to die. I endend up feeding him with a syringe every few hours. He did end up getting better, but it was a long road. Did the vet treat Gummi with meds? I have heard that meds can really screw up the sensitive tummies of cats. That's what I think happened to my Cosmo. The vet can prescribe enzymes that can help replace what Gummi has lost from being so sick. It doesn't hurt to ask the vet. Prayers for a speedy recovery.

I am so sorry to hear this. I will keep you and Gummi in my thoughts and prayers. Sending you positive vibes!!!!!! How old is Gummi? George had a loooong bout with giardia after coming home from the breeder. I thought it would never go way! Pumpkin worked for him though. Your situation is completely different though, with the URI also.
If you typically give Gummi hard food switch it to soft so that Gummi is getting liquids from it.

Home from the new vet, who I really liked by the way, but it was expensive! Here's what he did:
1. he took blood and tested for fel, leuk, and something else, sorry I forgot what

2. he did another fecal, and found some protazoa in it, he said it did not appear to be giardia, but is probably related. He put her back on metronidazole for that, he said it's broad spectrum and should clear it up.

3. He gave her a vitamin B-complex injection

4. He gave her some oral Diagel, to help settle her vomiting

5. He gave her an injection of cerenia, he said this was to flush the gut, and help restore enzyme balance

6. he gave her some warm sub Q fluids as she was dehydrated from vomiting and diarrhea. He sent the fluid bag home with me to give as needed also. (This sucks as she is HIGHLY uncooperative about it!!)

7.He sent home a can of appetizing A/D diet to entice her to eat.

$250 later, we are home, she is isolated in my bathroom, and has licked at the A/D food, he said he is prescribing, supportive symptomatic care mostly, as she has an inflamed colon, and that unknown protozoa. He was not worried about the other cats, he said they and she should have some antibodies to fight this stuff off. He said he did think it was something she could recover from, it was just harder on her for some reason, her lungs sound good, her blood tests were good. I'm sorry if I left anything out, I am wrestling sick kitty, 8 yr old son, and BUSY 2 year old.

He did say she should be feeling lots better tomorrow and to please call and let him know either way

Glad to hear the vet was able to pinpoint it a little more. If it's any consolation, I know that antibiotics are very hard on the body...they disrupt the "natural balance" of the body...we all have the good and bad bacteria, and when that balance is disrupted, the bad bacteria will flourish and take over. This may be what has caused her bowel issues.
Not that I am a vet or a doctor, but I know that women can be prone to yeast infection (sorry guys) flare ups when they take antibiotics.

I really hope she is on the mend...we are all rooting for Gummi

Glad you got some positive news. I sure hope Gummi starts to feel better. Yeah it gets really hard financially when you go to the vet and walk out spending so much. But they are my kids and I will do what ever it takes to make them better, Keep your head up and keep us updated.

There was no improvement this morning. We called the vet and he asked to see her again, he ran a full course of bloodwork, and it all came back completely normal, cost me a ton to find that out.
He is at a loss, just as the first vet was, neither of them have any idea what is wrong with her, Every tests they have has been done. This is so frustrating, and painful to watch. My house payment is now a month behind, and my kids are eating pb&j for the next two weeks, and still we have no answers!!

Gummi got more sub-q fluids today, she didn't even fight it anymore:Cry: I am syringe feeding her several times a day with a kitty glop/canned food diet. She has no interest in food, it's as if she has given up. She can't give up, because I refuse to allow it! she is in a crate with a heating pad and soft blankets, and supportive care.

Your prayers are greatly needed. She improved once before, maybe she can again.

I wish there was something we could do for you and Gummi. How about a "virtual" hug to you both? We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear Gummi hasn't improved overnight. Not only is it frustrating not knowing how to help her, but also it must be so heartbreaking for you to watch. Give her all the love you can. Try to stay hopeful. Sending you both lots of love.
