Today I'm a year older!
10 years ago I became extremely interested in seahorses (I was young), and today that's still my dream tank. After taking a friend to a local aquarium store that had seahorses, I decided to message my tank guy. Lo and behold, he had my dream tank! A 60 gallon rimless cube, fully plumbed for saltwater! So... as soon as he reveals the tank, I'm bringing it home!
Seahorses won't come for quite a while, I have to accumulate all the pricey additions such as rock, lighting, and a skimmer. I can't express how excited I am! After a sphynx, seahorses are my final dream pet.

Happy 4th!
Lynnie is enjoying one of my female bettas in the big tank.
Going tomorrow to get a referral to a cardiologist in New Orleans for him. Generally the doctor would come to a clinic here when enough patients need services, but because of the pandemic he's not traveling. Completely understandable. So hopefully we can get in soon!

Such a handsome boy. Are you just seeing the cardiologist for a check up?

Yes, now that he's over a year it's time for a baseline scan. I had several I was looking into, but one doesn't have the best rep, and the vet school doesn't currently have a cardiologist on staff. So after I get to his normal vet, they have to refer me to a cardiologist that was recommended by a vet my friend used to work for. They're an hour and a half away, which really isn't terrible, but I'm not sure they're even taking non emergency appointments right now. After the referral it's pretty much a play by ear situation.

I had to get a referral for our cardiology appointment too. Pain in the butt but I think it’s pretty standard. I wish you luck!

Thanks! Keeping my fingers crossed.
In other non-Noodle news, my SO and I are talking a bit more seriously about tying the knot and buying a house. I'm excited but intimidated. I'm on the fence between a wedding and eloping, whereas he's firmly on the wedding side.

Well my opinion is if you don’t actually have something against the convention of weddings you should go for it. It will me a lot to the rest of the family as well.

That's sort of the reason I don't want a traditional wedding. My bio dad's parents are racist (my SO is black), my step dad's parents are super brash and loud and can be pretty offensive, and I adore my mom's parents, but they and my step dad's parents get into theological and political discussions that give me a migraine. If I don't invite only certain people, there'll be a giant tantrum. So, while a little part of me wouldn't mind a traditional wedding, I also know that it has the potential to go very bad, very fast. Plus we really don't have a ton of money to spend, and even just having a close family and friends wedding, it would put us near 100 people. So I've been trying to convince him to just elope, and we can have a party announcing that we got married later. No luck on that so far.

For what it’s worth, if I get married someday I plan to only invite parents and siblings. That’s it. You could do the same and just have a really small wedding.

When I see my wedding, I see my close friends there, people who have become family to me. Then it would devolve into 'why did you invite your friends but not us?!?'
To me weddings are supposed to be happy, not a ton of grown adults becoming jealous toddlers. That's exactly what it would become though

@Yoda mom , that sounds fantastic! A little piece of me wants the dress, and the flowers, and the ceremony. The larger, more pragmatic part is thinking we could use the money spent to buy furniture or update the house we buy

Well, getting that referral didn't quite go to plan. One of the staff of the vet he goes to tested positive for COVID, so the entire staff had to quarantine. In the middle of this, my SO's father started having symptoms, and I saw my SO the previous day, so my family and I have been in quarantine since last Friday. No symptoms (crossing fingers), but I also have to use vacation to cover any time off. So I most likely won't be getting paid for next week. I have a friend who's been delivering groceries so we won't starve. Lynnie doesn't know what to think about it. I think he likes it though, he's actually been sleeping in my bed the last few nights.
The other night we avoided catastrophe with the pond. I looked outside and noticed the pond was almost entirely drained! The poor fish were in about two inches of water. Thankfully I caught it and we quickly refilled the pond and fixed the tubing issue that caused it. The fish are thankfully fine.
We've also decided to wait to set up the seahorse tank. As much as I would love to get it set up ASAP, we're planning to move in a couple of years, and the 135 is going to be hard enough to bring. So we'll set it up eventually. After we buy a house we want to start trying for kids a year or two later, so it might be a while.

Bummer being in quarantine. So you don’t have enough pto to be paid for a week?

I had enough to pay for a week, but not two... which really sucks. I do have savings that I can use if necessary, but lately I've been having to pull out a lot more from it than I'd really like to. I'm just glad my dad is now working from home permanently anyway or we would've been in trouble. Hopefully I can start work sooner than later so I don't have too much time off unpaid. All the pets have to eat somehow!

I will say that it has allowed me to get myself in a better state of mind than I was before. I've been able to help catch up on housework and spend more time with the critters.
Toulouse is actually coming to me for attention more often.
