@Nigelthomas how was Nigel's skin when you got home from work?

No, I don't really let the shampoo sit on the skin before rinsing it off. More or less, you'd do that if you had some sort of medicated shampoo. I bath them quickly here...1, 2, 3!

I don't bathe often anymore. For the longest time, I used to bathe them once a week. Then one winter when they had URI's, I put off bathing them until they felt better and it wasn't so cold. I found I was able to go longer in between baths. Lots of members that used to bathe once a week are no longer bathing as often. Use your judgement: Do NOT bathe more than once a week and certainly see if you can go longer. I find with these two recommended shampoos, that I can go longer with them staying cleaner and less "rust" coming out shortly after spa day.

When there is a skin issue here and I use the AvenaLyt Shampoo, I just use a soft, baby washcloth, no exfoliating gloves and make sure that I wash every inch of them (including the bottom of their feet and in between their toes)! :)

Even though this shampoo rinses very easily, I still rinse and rinse like there's no tomorrow.

The Vetericyn is great and within a few days, you really should begin to see great results.
his skin was soooo much better minus the spot on his head which is why I need that spray ... should have it before then end of next week !!! but the rest of his looks much better and I also clipped his nails last night that were too long for his own good ... that shampoo is a miracle but it does say that you can use it as often as necessary .... I just wanted to make sure his skin was getting better but I guess that I should wait forsure a week before giving him another bath and then spread it out ... I just need that spray to heal the last little bit .... would you recommend I still take him to the dermatologist even if I get the rash under control? just so I know what I was doing wrong ? maybe it was that medicated shampoo that the vet gave me? I was giving him a bath every Thursday and sunday as I was instructed by her ..... oh I wish I had the answers to all of this

@Nigelthomas, I knew the AvenaLyt Shampoo would calm Nigel's skin right down. It works like a charm with my guys when they get all sorts of bumps, sores and scabs on their skin. The Vererycin VF just adds the finishing touches. :) Yes, the shampoo says you can use it as often as necessary, but please use your judgement with that. You don't want to over-bathe. If it's looking pretty good right now, I'd leave things be honestly. You don't want to strip his natural oils and make a new issue with his skin. But, by all means, use your judgement. Oh, and by bathing too often, you are actually causing more oils to produce because the oil glands will compensate for dryness. So again, use your judgement.

Now the million dollar question...would I recommend still taking him to the dermatologist? I'll answer you if I was in your shoes right now since I can't tell you what to do. I'd be the first one to recommend a specialist if vet(s) can't figure out what's going on with a sphynx. Being that you have the appt. for next month, if it was me, I'd wait on deciding whether or not to go at this point. I wouldn't be in a rush to cancel the appt. and at the same time, I wouldn't necessarily be planning on keeping the appt. It would be a "wait and see" situation for right now if it was my sphynx and my decision. I wouldn't want to take him if things are looking really good by the appt. date because at that point, I don't think the specialist will have a clue as to what was going on except for possibly some photos. The dermatologist can't necessarily say what you were doing wrong so you could avoid this in the future. I wouldn't want a skin scraping done if nothing is really there because I wouldn't want to put him through the stress and disrupt his healing skin and risk causing new skin issues. Sometimes things are better off leaving well enough alone or if it isn't broke, don't fix it!

So again, if it was me, I would wait and see about canceling the dermatologist's appointment or keeping it. You have time to decide. I'd wait and see how his skin continues to do.

You may have to take into consideration that Nigel may have skin issues from time to time for no reason that you can avoid just like one of my guys. No rhyme or reason sometimes and his skin breaks out in bumps and sores, other times he itches like crazy. No changes in his diet, no changes in bedding or laundry detergents. Sometimes it's definitely from the amount he sweats and he's an over-groomer. I calm his skin with AvenaLyt Shampoo which works immediately and I use Veterycin VF on a cotton ball a few times a day, while other times I just use the Veterycin VF without bathing. I use my judgement what he needs and it works like a charm.

Thank you thank you!!!! I'll wait for the spray and wait atleast a week to give him a bath. I may have been messing up his skinf myself from the over bathing. I hope the spray comes soon for those last spots. I love this place :)

In the meantime, @Nigelthomas, you can wash his head area by using a soft, baby washcloth and adding a dot of the AvenaLyt Shampoo. Then have a few more clean baby washcloths handy to rinse away all the residue. If you have to wrap Nigel in a large towel burrito style to do so, then so be it. At least you can calm down what's going on in that area outside of the bath which he really doesn't like.

@Nigelthomas how is it going with Nigel's skin issue?
Not good at all :(. He was getting better and then Sunday I went up north for thanksgiving dinner. When I got home he was red and inflamed and he had scratched so deep he had swores by his ears. I have him a bath completely cleaned his room. And he's been a cone head since so that he can heal. I'm waiting for that spray to come to help those cuts heal but they are drying up nicely now that he can't touch them. My poor guy. I'm trying my best here. He had like baby floors in his room over the carpet. I have removed those to see if they have anything to do with it. :( I'm at a loss.

@Nigelthomas , has your vet discussed allergy testing options ?
I feel for you and Nigel .. Poor guy :(
I have an appointment booked for November 8th at a dermatologist I'm not cancelling anything even though they told me anywhere from 1000.00-1500.00 for the visit. I was just hoping to get it under control or better before then. My poor guy had been suffering for too long

@Nigelthomas , checking in amd sending positive vibes
Was it the natural balance pea ve sin you are trying for Nigel?
I read good reviews On the pea/venison Natural Balance L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets Green Pea & Venison Dry Cat Food, 8-lb bag - Chewy.com

All paws crossed for good news updates
Head smooches to adorable Nigel
So yesterday was bath day after waiting a week and litter change. Way better to have the clay litter but I was originally on odor buster which is basically the same thing. I was worried at first cause he wouldn't pee and I thought maybe u was stressing him with all these changes but in the afternoon he went in and did his business. I washed him again with the avenalyt and gave him a good scrub because he was dirty and that walnut litter makes him brown. I haven't seen him look so beautiful!!! Most of the rash is gone. The mess he made by his ear is 95% better. But he still has some red spots in this crotch area. I'll take pics tonight when I get home. I have been making it harder for him to eat his food so fast by putting objects in his bowl and we have had no issues with the switch over. In a few days I'll get some wet so he has that also but I'm monitoring his water intake and making sure he's drinking

@Nigelthomas , that is a lot of great progress in a short amount of time :) I raw
Lay like the Avenalyt and Hylyt - a lot goes a long way and rinses easy
Continued positive vibes sent - you should really see improvement I have found in about 10 days

lookijg forward to handsome Nigel pics!

( a vet once told me to put a large rock in food dish to slow em down )

I have also put the Vetericyn on a flat cotton round and gently wipes inside the ears
Made a huge difference

You can also do this for any irritated areas on Nigel - I have does this with heat rash on the sphynx bellies gently dabbing the areas

I have been :) I'm all over that gel spray. It's magical. Just not ready to take the cone off. I want to continue in the right direction and he's going that way. Maybe on Sunday I'll take it off. Depends. It's not hurting him and he's not bothered by it. Thanks again for all the support.

Came home from work and Nigel face was red and itchy. I put the spray on him and he was itchy and trying so hard to scratch. Poor guy. I'm at a loss. Why would he get bumps on his cheeks ??? And right after he ate. Like within mins. Would he react that fast?? I'm so frustrated :(

Now I really want to cry. So from the inspecting him I noticed this. I'm at a loss now. I'm seriously at a loss for words
Look he's made an indent from his tooth on his mouth. I want to cry. Seriously

It's literally the point of his tooth going into his gum. But only on that one side.

It's not till nov 8 that was the first appointment they had available. So I reached out to my breeder and they told me to use this ... they said make sure it's the ointment. And that they used it on a cat they had and after a week the rash went away. They also said they had to change food to acana grasslands and the orijen was to strong for some of the kittens and was giving them tummy issues. I'm so frustrated!!!!!

Update update update !!!! He's almost 95% better
Rash is almost completely gone. Have done bathing only once a week. Bath is tomorrow and cone comes off :) just wanted to make sure I was satisfied before I removed it that he wasn't itchy anymore. Food is now 100% only the LID diet. Only thing is they don't make the venison and pea in wet. Can I ask a stupid question. What if I just wet the dry food and made it soupy??? Sorry for asking such a silly question but I'm curious. Anyways yippie for me. So happy for my man. Fingers crossed it stays this way. Also the cortisone ointment at night also has helped a lot. Either way I hope we stay this way.

Glad to hear it is so much better. You can definitely add water but it is still going to be different than the wet. Not sure if your baby will like it that way. I know ours have always been picky about the consistency of their food etc.

He's pretty easy with his food. He will eat anything I put infront of him no issue. I have wet his food before they why I asked if it would be ok. But on a side note. Nigel is a very good drinker. He's always got fresh water and not one but two bowls of it.
