@pussiette, I just got to the end of the thread and saw your very sad comment about Ella's passing. I am so very sorry to hear that your baby crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Now I am really really scared because Cleo's skin looked almost identical to Ella's on two occasions this year. Are you able to elaborate on what you found out, re: cancer? If you're not able or don't want to, I understand. My sincerest condolences for the loss of Ella.

Thank you for sharing your experience in providing detailed information about the skin condition your baby has suffered and also the possibility of what might be causing it and what might changed. It's also good to hear the treatment that was working for your baby. Unfortunately my baby could not eat anything at all in the whole wide world and if she came into contact with anything eruptions develop. The only thing she could eat was boiled kangaroo human qualit no artificial colours flavours or preservatives. If she licked the sink or came into contact with scraps she broke out in these lesions. The only reason we found out it was cancer was because she stopped eating and was in pain. They were going to tubefeeder her but the vet thought about doing a blood test and ultrasound and that is how it was discovered on the day that she died. Her kidneys were triple the size and she had tumours neoplasia lymphoma.

What are you feeding her? It could be food allergy related but you have probably already tried an elimination diet.

We have had some skin issues with our eldest Lucifer, but it looks very different and we found out the spots are probably related to our central heating. His went away for the summer and came back when it got cold (he likes to hover near one of the heaters).

Hi my little girl Poppy has developed a grey belly and darker pigmentation in her elbow creases her armpits and back leg creases over these cold months aswell. She used to have a pink belly in the summer and now it is all grey, does this happen with weather changes or hormones? I haven't been worried as it is more of a pigment change with her than overall skin condition she has the occasional flaky dry spot but don't we all in the winter lol, has anyone else had dramatic colour changes with their cat in the winter months just wondering if these will return to pink in colour or light grey as is her whole body.

@pussiette does this sounds like what is going on with yours? mine has no open skin like that or hives at all, she gets the odd flaky little bump here and there but looks more like a clogged pore than what your cat has.

As @Catzzzmeow had mentioned, pictures are worth a thousands words. Many times more often then none, skin issues are food allergy related. Welcome by the way!

Also want meds was she prescribed? Some of us have found certain ones work better for Sphynx -

We all try to come together to help each other -
Culprits for skin issues can be food, laundry detergent, fabric softener and sheets, even the perfume or dust in litter-
What food and litter does she have? Perhaps we can offer suggestions.
Fwiw, my cats nor dogs do not do well on grain free -
Many of us have had success with Dr Elseus precious cat litter in June blue bag- near zero dust and perfume free- hypoallergenic marked on bag-

Do you supplement with l-lysine powder as an immune booster? I put 1/4 teaspoon mixed in wet food for maintenance.

Several of us use Now brand l-lysine and various others that work well mixed in food-
Mine hated the paste version from the vet.


Another popular skin product that is non toxic and popular is Vetericyn spray - you can check prices online in Canada and perhaps others can chime on with a source

There is a regular formula and also a Vetericyn VF (veterinary formula) that is twice as strong.
I order the Vetericyn VF in the spray and hydrogel 16 oz trigger bottle - it can be sprayed on a cotton cosmetic flat round and dabbed on skin areas-

I am sorry your baby is having skin issues- I am glad you have taken her to a vet and reached out to us
Many of us like hylyt soapfree hypoallergenic shampoo too
They also make an Avenalyt shampoo - both at my vets office or online

@pussiette , one of my boys has this.We had full blood allergy tests and skin biopsies and it showed that he is allergic to wheat. Even though we avoid this he still has Flaire ups and he takes Atopica daily now.It is great for skin problems and is safer than steroids. Xxx

Hi everyone! I'm scared Fester has developed this. I've attached pics but we did a steroid shot that seemed to help but then it came back with a vengeance. Currently he has a red rash down his back and dark brown scab like flakes on his face. All of his skin is flakey and dry. I've been trying coconut oil but everything has gotten worse since using it. I also give him half a tab of Zyrtec every night. My vet has never dealt with sphynxes so I'm at a loss. Any advice would be terribly appreciated.

I've been feeding Fester Nature's Variety grain free rabbit meal formula almost since I got him a year ago. That and fancy feast beef wet food. When I've been broke I supplemented with another dry food but this was a few months ago. He developed the rash while only on his regular foods. I did supplement with another dry food (again I was broke) but i'm stopping that food. I want to say that I got that after his rash appeared. I've cut that food completely out. It's Purina Beyond salmon egg and sweet potato.

I was using coconut oil to try and help but that seems to have made his skin extra dry and flakey and the black scabs appeared on his face. I never scrubbed or anything. Just used the oil to gently wipe away what I first thought was dirt. I've switched to Vaseline last night and his scabs are flaking off today. I also use the oatmeal and aloe shampoo that people mentioned was really good, Avenalyt. I got that about 2 months before the rash began. I don't bathe him often, since I know that it can cause issues. I bathe about once every 3 weeks to a month.

I recently moved and I've been scared to something in the apt. He mostly stays in my bedroom and the only change I can think of there is there are two new rugs. However, he wears shirts all the time and this is down his back so I feel that rules out contact dermatitis.

I'll try swapping to that new food. There's a cat specialist in town that I'm going to try and meet with today.i'll keep you guys posted. <3

I've been reading through this threat and I believe my cat, Buster, is going through the same thing. Steroids help for a bit then the rash returns. He's been to two different vets and they both think it looks like allergies. I just started him on Zyrtec and will continue to use it but will also inquire about this condition with my vet. Here's a picture:

I originally made a post about it here Recurring Skin Rash (Possible Allergies) where you can read more about the progression of it and our experience so far. I would much prefer not to have to continuously give him steroids so I'm hoping something will work.

Shehave sometimes also small red dots. If I bathe her with sebozero soap it gets better. I think is urticaria pigmentosa. I feed her with grain free food but I change a lot between all type of meat. So I don't know if she is allergic on particular type of food. Sometimes the bumps dissapear but lately she is in heat and got worsen. I will ask my vet if any cream might help or so.

Hello everyone! I have beautiful baby boy sphynx cat Sever, who recently got these weird brown spots. They look like freckles, but he lives in an apartment and never goes out so he's not in direct sunlight ever. It started on his back, he got this weird circle with brown dots and some of them reddish,so we thought it's an allergy to some of the food we give him so we went to the vet and she gave us some special napkins to clean him and said to come and visit her after 2 weeks. 2 weeks passed we gave him only allergic cat food and nothing else, we used the napkins, but he got lot worse. Now he has those spots on his head, neck and half of his back and they are small and not in a circle anymore. The doctor said that it might be some skin fungus. When we went to see her again today, she said that she doesn't seem to see any problem with him, because they are not reddish and he's not scratching them. And he really does feel food, he's eating and drinking, playing and purring, but it just looks awful. The doctor said that we should go to the dermatologist just in case if we want to know what it is and as we are living in Eastern Europe she just might not have the knowledge she needs for sphynx cats. But she said that they are going to take some sample from his skin to make a test to find out what it is, so before we go I want to know if any of you have ever seen anything like this and maybe you have better doctors in your country so they know what kind of disease is this. I really look forward to any reply, thank you so much!
P.S. I forgot to mention that he started recently to breath heavy and he is snoring while asleep. And he is 3 years old, going to be 4 in January.

I would ask the vet to rule out yeast or bacterial , and or uticaria

What wipes did they give ?

Also how is his breathing today?
Does he have any crusties by his nose and or sneezing ?
Mine had seasonal allergies amd an over the counter chlor tab was prescribed
You can ask your vet sbout if they think it's allergies

A month or two after I adopted her, she developed an itchy, hot rash, which my vet determined was likely an allergic reaction to the litter I was using. We did prednisolone and it cleared up. Then it returned another month later after she spent some time at a friend’s house while I was out of town.

In early October she had surgery to correct a shoulder injury. Her skin started breaking out and at our three week post surgical appointment the surgeon put her on four weeks of Cephalexin.

But now.. in the last few days Cici has developed thick, dark scabs - in her chin folds, on her cheek, at the base of her tail (underside) and in the bend of the shoulder she had surgery on.

My vet had previously suggested Urticaria pigmentosa, and reading through this thread I’m staring to wonder if she’s right. Any thoughts? (We’re headed back to the vet ASAP).

My first thought would also have been urticaria pigmentosa.

@dotrisky what you tell about CiCi's rashes and by the look on the photos it could wel be Uticaria Pigmentosa. You can ask the vet to take biopsies of the rash and sent it to the lab (at least that's the way to determine UP in the Netherlands).
My boy Toa has Uticaria Pigmentosa too. Since I give him one prednisone pill a day it almost completly under control and he hardly has rashes anymore.
