Does your sphynx have urticaria pigmentosa/severe hive?

I desperately need to connect with anyone owning a sphynx with this health problem.

I believe that may be what we have with Toothy. Starting treatment for it today.
I wondered if he had that when I saw your pic of him on his year anniversary photos. Ki is being tested for this. We have already started steroids and are waiting bloodwork results. If nothing comes of that we are going to biopsy of skin. There is not much info on it.
Oh and we started a no poultry diet.

I showed a Sphynx breeder that pic when we were at the show this weekend and that's what she thinks it is too. I took some better pictures specifically of it today so I can document results of treatment. It really doesn't seem to bother or itch him though and they're not scabby. They just look that way. It's all on his belly and pit areas. When we got him we thought it was just dirty rash from not having been bathed in his life, but it hasn't come off. His bloodwork has been fine and skin scrapings never showed anything, and - oddly - the vet had never mentioned trying a biopsy. But then, he's only ever seen three sphynx and they've all been mine. He did recommend asking someone else with a Sphynx if they'd seen this before which prompted my asking while at the show.

Does this look like what Ki has? Or yours, Pussiette? (I'm going to leave these as thumbnails so people can decide if they want to be horrified.)

This is part of the problem no vets or specialists here in australia have seen sphynx or treated them because they are unique. Had her stitches out today They dont know what it is they said the cells are replicating and behaving like cancer so they are testing for cancer.

Will try to get pictures of her skin uploaded not sure on the rules though.

I wish I could say I have seen this before. Is there vet who specializes in skin issues in cats near you? Your vet should be able to recommend a specialist. If not get a second opinion. Please update us. We are here for you.

My kitten gets little hives that look similar to that but not nearly that extensive. The most she's ever had at a time was 5, and only one got big like that. I switched her food to Acana grasslands, which is made with lamb (which is hypoallergenic) and last week started using Earthbath aloe/oatmeal shampoo o her. I also switched our laundry detergent to a fragrance/dye free sort. She hasn't gotten a new hive since last Thursday *knocks on wood*. Mine seems to only get them around her shoulders, neck and head and only ever the top side. My breeder told me it was allergies of some sort. Not sure about yours though, that looks intense :( maybe have an allergy panel done?

Attached is a pic of the worst of Zoa's outbreaks (which seems minor in comparison). Sorry for the poor quality pic of her licking her bum, it's all I could find that shows it.

Are you sure it's hives?? Has she been tested for things like ringworms or scabies?? My kitt gets small hives on her neck and body when she eats to grains. I switched to grain free food and now they are all gone. Nothing like what your kitt has tho, it's really extreme. I would definately cut grains to start with. Royal Canin is not grain free, my kitt can't have that even though the breeder gave it to her.

What are you feeding her? It could be food allergy related but you have probably already tried an elimination diet.

We have had some skin issues with our eldest Lucifer, but it looks very different and we found out the spots are probably related to our central heating. His went away for the summer and came back when it got cold (he likes to hover near one of the heaters).

Toothy's looks more like this and, though his doesn't go away in the Summer, it has gotten worse since it's gotten colder and he's spending more time sitting on the pet heating pad. Hmmmmm.

To be honest they didn't completely vanish. There were some spots left on his back legs but his flanks were clear and they reappeared as soon as the heating went on.

Does Toothy's skin feel a little leathery were the spots are too?

This is close to what Ki looks like in a full blown attack. Her pustules are not so big but the hives take over her body. She is much better since an steroid shot this past Friday. She is on a month of antibiotics to clear up thw secondary skin infection. We sent out bloodwork for allergies but no results for two weeks.
My vet is back to work from falling and breaking her leg and wants to wait on the allergy test since the steroids got rid of the hhives to do a skin biopsy.
she is on a limited ingredients diet. No grains, no rice or potato either.. The only proteins that are allowed are venison, rabbit and fish.
We only use a hypoallergenic laundry soap and fabric softener.
I wash her every four days alternating between Ketochlor and allergroom. I use a face brush to scrub her with and make sure to clean it after every bath. As to not reinfect her skin. I have already thrown away one and bought a new one.
We know ot is something only with Ki as thw other two cats are not effected by her condion at all.

Dose the cat respond to steroid treatments?
